Chapter 152: The Winsor Family
Mia stood to the side, holding a plate of freshly made nougat, feeling a little awkward. Then, a voice said, "Come home and have dinner with me. Now, even having a meal with my grandson requires an appointment, huh?"
Fraser narrowed his eyes slightly. After a moment, he said, โI have things to do today. Iโll come back another time.โ With that, he hung up the phone. He leaned back lazily in the seat, closing his eyes for a rest.
Mike, sitting in the front passenger seat, was on edge. He quietly raised three fingers. โMr. Graham, I swear on my life, I didnโt leak your whereabouts to the Graham family.โ
Fraser lifted his eyes slightly, his cold gaze sweeping over Mike, who looked as if he was ready to swear his innocence with his life. He let out a light scoff. โEven if I gave you ten times the courage, you wouldnโt dare.โ
Fraser had complicated feelings toward Helen. His biological parents left when he was very young. Helen took on both the role of a mother and a grandmother to raise him, and Fraser wasnโt oblivious to that. The two elders of the Graham family had a strong sense of possession and control over him. Sometimes, they would play little tricks behind his back. Most of the time, as long as they didnโt cross the line, Fraser didnโt bother with them. He simply turned a blind eye.
โHead to Ravenshire Boulevard,โ his voice rang through the car.
โOkay, Mr. Graham.โ Mike silently swallowed the words about the scheduled dinner with the president of Cranford Bank.
The driver turned the steering wheel, and the car merged onto another wide road. After a while, the car finally slowed to a stop at a reserved parking space on Ravenshire Boulevard. Fraser took the private elevator straight to the top floor, which was the 66th.
The password lock clicked open, and he walked inside. The room was eerily quiet, the air filled with a sense of emptiness. Fraser walked straight into the bedroom and pushed the door open. The bedroom was also silent. The blanket on the bed was neatly folded and placed to the side. If it werenโt for the womanโs clothes in the laundry basket, Fraser would have thought last night was just a dream.
He let out a low chuckle. She ran away again. With one hand in his pocket, his tall figure stood in place. The massive floor-to-ceiling window cast a long shadow of him, tinged with the melancholy of dusk.
Fraser had never thought he would one day experience something called frustration. As an adult, he was the Top Dog of Havenbrook. He was the president of the world-class Graham Group. He had endless wealth and supreme power. But todayโฆDamn it! He actually felt a pang of frustration and a slight ache in his heart. Summer, after all this time, do you still not see me?
After a long while, Fraser turned around, ready to leave and close the door behind him. Then suddenly, something crossed his mind. His dark eyes scanned the bedroom. That sapphire bracelet. She has taken it withโฆ
At the Graham estate, Helen hung up the phone, the kindness on her face slowly fading away. She looked at Mia, who was standing not far away, and said in a calm tone, โNo need to continue making them. Fraser wonโt be coming back for dinner.โ
โRight,โ Mia placed the nougat on the dining table, took off her blue apron, and handed it to a maid. She then obediently walked over and sat on the couch across from Helen.
7:45 PM
Mia placed her hands neatly on her lap. โI donโt think sheโs worth your concern, Madam Graham.โ
โOh?โ Helenโs tone was neutral, but that simple word made Mia, who had known her for years, instinctively nervous. Her fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress.
Helenโs sharp gaze locked onto Mia. โNo wonder my grandson isnโt interested in you. Miaโฆyou had the best chance.โ
This was a test. Mia carefully concealed her emotions and replied cautiously, โI only see him as an older brother. I wonโt have any inappropriate thoughts anymore. Being able to serve you is my honor.โ
Helen smiled. โYour motherโs birthday is coming up. The villa in the north of the city; let her have it for her retirement.โ
โThank you, Madam Graham.โ
โMia, once this matter is settled, I will arrange a meeting for you with the eldest son of the Winsor family. They are a top elite family in Ameros. I have always treated you like my own granddaughter. Donโt disappoint me.โ
โMadam Graham, I donโtโฆwantโโ
Before Mia could finish, she felt a chilling gaze land on her. She instinctively changed her words. โAlright, I understand.โ
