Chapter 201: No Place Left for Her
Summer frowned, thinking she must have misheard. Suicide? Leona was worried Summer wouldn't believe her, so she explained it in detail.
โItโs true. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart have been arguing a lot recently. This morning, they had a huge fight. Afterward, Mrs. Stewart didnโt say a wordโshe just went into the bedroom by herself. She was in there for a long time. It wasnโt until we were cleaning that we found her in the bathroom. Sheโd cut her wrists. If we hadnโt found her in time, she wouldโve lost too much blood.โ
Thatโs when Summer realized how serious things were. Julia was the kind of high-society woman who didnโt even do cleaning, and she was terrified of pain. If she went that far, something truly devastating must have happened.
Summer glanced at the towering Graham Group headquarters just ahead of her. After a moment of hesitation, she turned the wheel and headed in the opposite direction.
Thirty minutes later, Summer arrived at the Stewartsโ mansion. After getting out of the car, she went straight through the living room and up to Juliaโs bedroom. She pushed open the bedroom door. Julia was lying in bed. She looked completely washed out, her lips bone white, like sheโd aged ten years in a single night. The slash on her wrist was right thereโraw, red, and impossible to ignore. Two family doctors were giving her an IV.
Summer walked over. One of the doctors filled her in. โMrs. Stewart attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. Thankfully, we found her in time. If we hadnโt, she wouldnโt have survived today.โ
Summer stared at Julia. โAlright. You two can leave.โ
Julia was lying in bed, her eyes blank and empty, nothing behind them. It was like all the life had drained out of her. And then, when she heard Summerโs voice, her eyelashes twitched, and almost instantly, tears welled up and spilled down her face. Seeing her like this, Summer couldnโt help but feel a twinge of sympathy. She sat down on the stool next to the bed.
โWhat happened?โ she asked quietly.
When Julia heard that question, she went from quietly sobbing to crying uncontrollably. She was crying so hard she couldnโt speak. Summer reached out, wanting to offer some comfort, but her hand froze in the air.
After everythingโyears of cold shoulders and distance from Juliaโ
Chapter 201: No Place Left for Her (Continued)
After crying for a while, Julia glanced up at the papers in Summerโs hand. Her eyes swollen and red, she rasped out, โThatโs the divorce agreement Jasper gave me. That bastard transferred all my shares, property, and assets behind my back.โ
Summer flipped to another pageโthere was a DNA report. Juliaโs voice cracked as she burst out, โAs if that wasnโt enoughโheโฆ he lied to me. HarveyโHarveyโs not even mine. Heโs that mistressโs kid!โ She started beating her chest, sobbing harder. โIโm such an idiot. I spoiled another womanโs son and daughter like they were my ownโwhile pushing away my real daughter. Someone like meโฆ I donโt deserve to live. Summerโฆ Iโm sorry, I really am. Let me die!โ
From her broken, scattered words, Summer finally pieced everything together. So this all started the last time Jasper wanted her to use her connections to get to Fraser. She didnโt play alongโand that pushed him over the edge. And he took it out on Julia. He even started bringing the other woman into the Stewart house, over and over, like it was nothing. Julia couldnโt take it and ended up getting into a fight with the mistress. But that woman, full of herself because of Jasperโs favoritism, didnโt back down at all. In fact, she straight-up said Harvey was her own biological son.
Julia couldnโt handle it. She had it investigated, and when she saw the truth, she lost it. She tried to confront Jasper. But Jasper didnโt care anymore. These days, Jasper had no use for the Chapman family. Heโd lost all patience with Julia. He slammed the divorce papers down and made it clearโhe was cutting her off and kicking her out with nothing.
Even though Summer had long stopped caring about the Stewart family, hearing all of this now made her furious. Jasper was beyond shameless. Julia kept crying, losing control more with each word. Still in tears, she tried to climb out of bed, wanting to drop to the floor in front of Summer and beg her to forgive her. Then, completely overwhelmed, she suddenly grabbed a sharp object from the room and tried to end her life again.
The family doctor heard the noise and rushed in, immediately giving her another sedative. Summer told them to take good care of her. She slowly walked out of the bedroom. Standing at the door, she looked back at Julia lying on the bed, completely lifeless. Her emotions were tangledโheavy and hard to describe.
At the door, she ran into Harvey, who had just come back from outside. Harvey glanced into the bedroom, his expression cold and unreadable. With a trace of disgust, he said, โThis is pathetic. Since Julia raised me, Iโll turn a blind eye this time. But once sheโs done with her breakdown, you need to take her somewhere else. If she wants to die, fineโbut not in this house.โ
