Chapter 214: Sunshine Mall
She cried, asking if Harvey no longer loved her. Only then did she learn Summer had evicted Harvey and Jasper; he was also penniless. Margaret now lived like a peasant. She couldn't go to the beauty salon, couldn't shop, couldn't eat expensive food. She felt like she was about to suffocate! But then, a surge of hope rose within her. As long as she got rid of Summer, Jasper and Harvey would retake control of Stewart Group. They would bring her back, and she would once again be the true heiress.
The car pulled over by a secluded riverside. Beside them stood a large bridge, and underneath it, a few scattered beggars lay resting. Margaret was the first to step out of the car. Yolanda followed, getting out from the passenger seat. She had just gotten out of prison with no money and nowhere to go. She thought Margaret would take her to get something to eat and arrange a place for her to stay. She did not expect to be brought to this place instead. But it didnโt matter. As long as she was out and Margaret was willing to see her, that was already the greatest stroke of luck.
Margaret lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and glanced at Yolanda, who was cautiously trying to get closer to her.
โDo you know why I brought you here?โ
Yolanda shook her head. Suddenly, Margaret let out a wail. โI wish I could take you to a five-star restaurant for a fancy meal, book a luxurious hotel for you to stay in. But I have nothing right now! Iโm drowning in debt! Soon, I might be worse off than those beggars under the bridge. Those loan sharks might even sell me off somewhere!โ
Margaret wasnโt just playing the victim; she really was desperate for money. But growing up in the Stewart family, she had mastered the art of sweet-talking, of charming people. And more than anything, she knew how to make those who loved her willingly do anything for her.
โYouโre my real mother. Seeing me like this, doesnโt it break your heart? Just because you didnโt strangle Summer to death back then, Iโve become this pathetic, unwanted person.โ
Hearing this, Yolandaโs heart ached instantly. Her Margaret was supposed to be a princess, adored and cherished in a grand castle.
โMargaret, tell me. What do you want me to do? As long as you can go back to how you used to be, Iโm willing to do anything.โ
Margaret smirked disdainfully as she said each word, โIf you help me get rid of Summer, Iโll be the old Margaret again. When I have money again, Iโll buy a big house for us to live in together.โ She painted Yolanda a grand vision of the future.
โYou really mean it? Youโll live with me?โ
โOf course, but only if you take care of Summer first!โ
Yolanda had raised Summer for years, so she knew exactly where her weaknesses lay. A ruthless glint flashed across her eyes. โDonโt worry. Iโll make sure she disappears without a trace.โ
The next morning, Summer arrived at the office. Her secretary knocked on the door. โMs. Stewart, the semi-annual review meeting for Sunshine Mall requires your participation.โ
Chapter 214: Sunshine Mall - Finished
โI just attend remotely.โ Soon, she joined the meeting via audio call. After the Sunshine Mall director finished presenting the annual report, there was suddenly some noise from the other end of the line.
โMr. Trevor, what brings you here?โ
In the meeting room, Trevor had just walked in. His gaze swept across the attendees, but he didnโt see Summer. His expression darkened. โCarry on. I just happened to have time today to listen in,โ Trevor said.
Summer paused for a moment. Near the end of the meeting, the director asked Summer, โMs. Stewart, are you satisfied with this yearโs revenue plan, or do you have any suggestions?โ
โNo major issues,โ Summer replied after a brief thought.
โMoving forward, Stewart Group will no longer be involved in the operations of Sunshine Mall. This yearโs dividends will be fully returned to Larson Group.โ With that, she ended the call. Trevor, sitting in the meeting room, watched as the call disconnected, his eyes turning even darker. He let out a bitter laugh. She is truly heartless. She doesnโt want any connection with me at all.
As he replayed everything that had happened lately, for the first time, he truly understood that Summer had really left him. It wasnโt a bluff. It wasnโt a tactic to make him chase her. She had truly stopped loving him. Every time he thought about this, the suffocating silence, the endless darkness, and the inescapable torment swallowed him whole. And so, he ran. But when he heard she would be attending the Sunshine Mall meeting todayโฆ
