Chapter 32 A Grand Misunderstanding
She didnโt have such a poor mother. But 400 thousand dollars in pocket money wasnโt enough for Margaret. She had accumulated some debts. Thatโs why she wanted to join Stewart Group and claim some shares.
Margaret slipped into the red velvet dress and twirled before the full-length mirror. Even she was stunned by her own beauty. She was gorgeous! Margaret thought, โNo wonder Fraser had taken a liking to me.โ
Thinking of Fraser, Margaretโs heart raced. She really adored handsome, powerful men.
Glancing at the clock, she flung open her bedroom door and rushed out, colliding with Julia, who had just returned.
โOuch, Margaret, why the hurry? And why are you dressed so stunningly?โ Julia said.
Margaret gleefully hugged Julia. โMom, your daughterโs amazing! Fraser invested 1 billion dollars in Stewart Group for me! He must fancy me; youโre about to have a new son-in-law.โ
Julia tilted her head. โReally? You mean the Graham family in Havenbrook, that Bossman Fraser Graham?โ
โItโs true! Dad even asked me to come to the company to sign the contract with him. After signing, heโll reward me with shares. How could it be fake?โ
Julia had been skeptical, but since Jasper had called directly, it must have been real. โOh, Margaret, youโre truly Momโs pride,โ Julia said.
Margaret beamed with confidence. โMom, I told you Iโm better than Summer, more thoughtful, too. See, Iโm the one who really cares about our Stewart family.โ
Julia knew Margaret had always resented Summer. Julia thought, One was the daughter Iโd raised for 20 years; the other was my biological child. Honestly, she loved both. But today, Margaret was elated, and Julia didnโt want to spoil it.
โMargaret, youโve always been the one Mom loves most. Wait here; Mom will change, and weโll go to the company together,โ Julia said, smiling.

Summer walked into the company. The employees buzzed with activity, as if celebrating a major event. Summer stopped a colleague from the planning department.
โWhatโs everyone busy with, setting up a venue? Whatโs going on?โ Summer asked.
The intern, unaware of Stewart Groupโs internal rivalries, replied, โMs. Stewart, Graham Group agreed to invest in our Global Plan, and Mr. Stewartโs holding a banquet meeting.โ
Summer thought, They secured the investment? Graham Group moved that fast? โWhy didnโt I get a notice?โ Summer pondered.
โHuh?โ The internโs eyes widened. On reflection, it seemed Ms. Stewart wasnโt on the meeting list. She whispered, โIt looks like this meeting is mainly to sign the contract with Graham Group and commend Ms. Margaret.โ
Realizing her slip, the intern grew awkward and wanted to flee. Summer narrowed her eyes, sensing something amiss. โWhy is Graham Groupโs investment commending Margaret?โ
The intern stammered. Suddenly, a loud, haughty voice and the clack of heels echoed behind her. Summer turned to see Margaret strutting in from the lobby, arm in arm with Julia. Both wore dazzling evening gowns, as if attending a gala. They stood out starkly in the Stewart building.
โDad probably didnโt invite you to the meeting because he didnโt want you upset, or maybe he thinks youโre unimportant,โ Margaret said sharply, her tone dripping with mockery. Her words implied Summer had contributed nothing to the Global Plan and had been sidelined by Jasper.
The bustling employees paused, turning to watch. Summer pieced together Margaretโs and the internโs words. It clicked: Graham Group had invested in the Global Plan today, and Jasper likely assumed Margaret had secured it. Hence, this meeting.

Summerโs expression remained calm. โAre you sure Graham Groupโs investment is your doing?โ she asked evenly.
Margaret frowned and snapped, โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ Sheโd felt a twinge of guilt, but Summerโs question ignited her temper like a provoked rooster.
โLiterally what I said. If you donโt get it, maybe brush up on your English back at school.โ Margaretโs lips curled into a contemptuous smirk.
โSummer, I know youโre jealous that I landed Graham Groupโs investment while your Trevor showed no interest. Donโt be upset; weโre all working for the Stewart familyโs good. Iโll even tell Dad you tried your best this time.โ
