Chapter 32 A Grand Misunderstanding

She didnโ€™t have such a poor mother. But 400 thousand dollars in pocket money wasnโ€™t enough for Margaret. She had accumulated some debts. Thatโ€™s why she wanted to join Stewart Group and claim some shares.

Margaret slipped into the red velvet dress and twirled before the full-length mirror. Even she was stunned by her own beauty. She was gorgeous! Margaret thought, โ€œNo wonder Fraser had taken a liking to me.โ€

Thinking of Fraser, Margaretโ€™s heart raced. She really adored handsome, powerful men.

Glancing at the clock, she flung open her bedroom door and rushed out, colliding with Julia, who had just returned.

โ€œOuch, Margaret, why the hurry? And why are you dressed so stunningly?โ€ Julia said.

Margaret gleefully hugged Julia. โ€œMom, your daughterโ€™s amazing! Fraser invested 1 billion dollars in Stewart Group for me! He must fancy me; youโ€™re about to have a new son-in-law.โ€

Julia tilted her head. โ€œReally? You mean the Graham family in Havenbrook, that Bossman Fraser Graham?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s true! Dad even asked me to come to the company to sign the contract with him. After signing, heโ€™ll reward me with shares. How could it be fake?โ€

Julia had been skeptical, but since Jasper had called directly, it must have been real. โ€œOh, Margaret, youโ€™re truly Momโ€™s pride,โ€ Julia said.

Margaret beamed with confidence. โ€œMom, I told you Iโ€™m better than Summer, more thoughtful, too. See, Iโ€™m the one who really cares about our Stewart family.โ€

Julia knew Margaret had always resented Summer. Julia thought, One was the daughter Iโ€™d raised for 20 years; the other was my biological child. Honestly, she loved both. But today, Margaret was elated, and Julia didnโ€™t want to spoil it.

โ€œMargaret, youโ€™ve always been the one Mom loves most. Wait here; Mom will change, and weโ€™ll go to the company together,โ€ Julia said, smiling.

Summer walked into the company. The employees buzzed with activity, as if celebrating a major event. Summer stopped a colleague from the planning department.

โ€œWhatโ€™s everyone busy with, setting up a venue? Whatโ€™s going on?โ€ Summer asked.

The intern, unaware of Stewart Groupโ€™s internal rivalries, replied, โ€œMs. Stewart, Graham Group agreed to invest in our Global Plan, and Mr. Stewartโ€™s holding a banquet meeting.โ€

Summer thought, They secured the investment? Graham Group moved that fast? โ€œWhy didnโ€™t I get a notice?โ€ Summer pondered.

โ€œHuh?โ€ The internโ€™s eyes widened. On reflection, it seemed Ms. Stewart wasnโ€™t on the meeting list. She whispered, โ€œIt looks like this meeting is mainly to sign the contract with Graham Group and commend Ms. Margaret.โ€

Realizing her slip, the intern grew awkward and wanted to flee. Summer narrowed her eyes, sensing something amiss. โ€œWhy is Graham Groupโ€™s investment commending Margaret?โ€

The intern stammered. Suddenly, a loud, haughty voice and the clack of heels echoed behind her. Summer turned to see Margaret strutting in from the lobby, arm in arm with Julia. Both wore dazzling evening gowns, as if attending a gala. They stood out starkly in the Stewart building.

โ€œDad probably didnโ€™t invite you to the meeting because he didnโ€™t want you upset, or maybe he thinks youโ€™re unimportant,โ€ Margaret said sharply, her tone dripping with mockery. Her words implied Summer had contributed nothing to the Global Plan and had been sidelined by Jasper.

The bustling employees paused, turning to watch. Summer pieced together Margaretโ€™s and the internโ€™s words. It clicked: Graham Group had invested in the Global Plan today, and Jasper likely assumed Margaret had secured it. Hence, this meeting.

Summerโ€™s expression remained calm. โ€œAre you sure Graham Groupโ€™s investment is your doing?โ€ she asked evenly.

Margaret frowned and snapped, โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean?โ€ Sheโ€™d felt a twinge of guilt, but Summerโ€™s question ignited her temper like a provoked rooster.

โ€œLiterally what I said. If you donโ€™t get it, maybe brush up on your English back at school.โ€ Margaretโ€™s lips curled into a contemptuous smirk.

โ€œSummer, I know youโ€™re jealous that I landed Graham Groupโ€™s investment while your Trevor showed no interest. Donโ€™t be upset; weโ€™re all working for the Stewart familyโ€™s good. Iโ€™ll even tell Dad you tried your best this time.โ€
