Chapter 341: Brewing Schemes
Enelia followed behind, picking up the pillow thrown to the floor. โEnough, Morgan. The Graham family is the wealthiest in Havenbrook. Even your grandfather has to show Fraser some respect. Why did you have to provoke that woman just now?โ
Morgan sat on the edge of the bed, fuming. Her face ached, and her chest burned with anger. โI just canโt stand women like her! Why should everyone bow down to a vixen just because she latched onto the Bosman?โ
Emelia sighed. โThatโs just how society works. If you have the ability, go find yourself a man with power and influence to protect you.โ
Morgan refused to accept it. โThe best men in Havenbrook have been snatched up by her! Where am I supposed to find one now?โ
โThen, Morgan, be good and stop making trouble. Weโve already lost enough face today.โ
โMom, the pain on my face is killing me, and youโre still speaking up for that vixen? Are you my mother?โ
Emelia took the warm, towel-wrapped egg from a maid and gently pressed it to Morganโs swollen cheek. โBecause Iโm your mother, Iโm telling you not to stir up trouble. That woman is pregnant. In the Graham family, sheโs untouchable. Thereโs no need to fight a losing battle and end up covered in filth.โ
Morgan touched her red, swollen face, her pupils dilating with resentment. โWhy should she have everything?!โ
Emelia knew her daughter had been spoiled since childhood and still didnโt understand the intricacies of social power. โBecause she is the rightful Mrs. Graham.โ
โFraser must be blind, bewitched by that vixen. Mom, Iโm just as beautiful. If I had met Fraser earlier, maybe I would be the one standing in her place today.โ
Emelia comforted her, โYes, yes, my daughter is the most beautiful. Donโt worry, I will find you a good match. Apart from the Graham family, I heard that Trevor from the Larson Group is still unmarried.โ
Hearing this, Morgan abruptly stood up. โTrevor was that vixenโs ex! I refuse to take her leftovers.โ
Emelia was momentarily stunned. She had not expected Summer to have had ties with not one but two of Havenbrookโs most powerful families.
โFine, forget Trevor. Iโll arrange a meeting with the Aldridge family instead. They come from a prestigious literary lineage and are also a wealthy household. Their status would suit you well.โ
Morgan was not interested. Right now, the only man she cared about was Fraser. โWhy should I settle for anyone else? That woman only gained her position because she wasโฆโ She would make sure to get her revenge. She responded absentmindedly, โWeโll see.โ
Emelia finished tending to her face, reminding her once more not to cause any trouble, before heading next door to change.
Of course, Emelia was also furious. Her precious daughter had been slapped, and she had to swallow her pride and apologize to Summer. But the Graham family and the Harper family were not on the same level. She had weathered many storms in her life. There was no point in making an enemy out of Mrs. Graham just to satisfy a grudge. It was far wiser to focus on securing a greater share of the fortune in Granthera Bank for herself and her daughter.
Speaking of the Aldridge family, Morgan was indeed of age to marry. A good marriage would not only elevate her status in the Harper family but also give her someone to rein her in and perhaps even curb her impulsive nature.
Emelia had already made up her mind. Tomorrow, she would arrange an afternoon tea with Madam Olivia.
The moment Emelia left the room, Sasha and Liliah stepped inside. Morgan glanced at them with disdain, her tone dripping with sarcasm. โOh? You two actually remembered to show up?โ
Sasha and Liliah exchanged looks before stepping forward, each taking a side to massage Morganโs shoulders ingratiatingly. Sasha smiled awkwardly. โThere wasnโt much we could do back there.โ
Liliah nodded quickly. โYes, so we stepped aside and decided to find a way to help you from the shadows.โ
Morgan scoffed. โYou talk a good game. Fine. Iโll give you a chance to redeem yourselves. How do you plan on helping me get revenge?โ
Sasha and Liliah forced a smile. That was just empty talk meant to appease her. Even Morgan herself had been completely overpowered by Summer; what could they possibly do?
Seeing their hesitation, Morganโs patience snapped. She shoved their hands away in annoyance. โCowards, the both of you!โ
Sasha quickly soothed her, โDonโt be mad, donโt be mad! Morgan, just tell us what to do, and weโll do it!โ
Morganโs anger still simmered, and she was already scheming on how to turn the tables. Suddenly, an idea came to her. โThere is something you can do for me. Come closer.โ
Sasha and Liliah leaned in as Morgan whispered into their ears. As they listened, their expressions darkened.
Liliah, who was always the timid one, hesitated. โI donโt think thatโs a good ideaโฆโ
Morgan shot her a sharp look. โWhatโs not good about it?โ
Liliah swallowed nervously. โYou insulted her earlier, and the Bossman immediately stepped in to defend her. If something were to happen to her baby, do you really think he wouldnโt destroy us all?โ
