Chapter 71: You Were My First
Summer heard those frigid words, and an abrupt wave of unease clenched her heart.
How did Fraser know I went to try on wedding dresses? Was he there that day? Did he misunderstand my relationship with Trevor? Does he think I agreed to break up with Trevor but failed to follow through, so now he wants to cancel the remaining 500 million?
Summer quickly spoke. โI can explain. That day was an accident.โ
โWhat kind of accident?โ Fraserโs sharp gaze locked onto her, his tone laced with mockery. โDonโt tell me you were forced into trying on a wedding dress?โ
That day, she had indeed agreed to put it on. But only to get back at Trevor.
โNo one forced me.โ
The moment those words left her lips, the temperature in the room seemed to plummet. A chill surged through her, crawling up from the soles of her feet. She rushed to clarify, โItโs not what you think. Trevor and I arenโt together.โ
She added firmly, โIโm not someone who goes back on my word.โ
Fraser uncrossed his legs and rose to his full height. Standing before her, he towered over her by an entire head. From a distance, it looked as though he had completely enveloped her in his shadow. His gaze bore down on her, deep and unreadable. Then, without warning, he reached out, fingers tracing the delicate curve of her chin in a slow, deliberate caress before lifting it slightly with his index finger.
Summer felt the icy touch of his skin as he tilted her head back. His movement was unhurried, almost gentle, yet the oppressive force he exuded was undeniable. Fraserโs voice was light, almost indifferent, but beneath that feigned calmness lurked a storm, deeper and more volatile than a raging sea.
โItโs not what I think?โ He sneered. โTrevor tried to send me your wedding invitation just a few days ago. Who knows? Maybe youโll be carrying his child and delivering in just a few days.โ His lips curled into a smirk. โSummer, are you really that good at putting on a show?โ
They were too close. His scent drifted over. It was sandalwood laced with the faintest trace of tobacco. Familiar. Alluring. For a fleeting moment, Summerโs mind wavered. But when she heard the word โchild,โ her mind snapped back into focus.
Am I some kind of deity with superpowers? How could I get pregnant and give birth to a child in a matter of days?

โYouโre the first. What do you think I should feel?โ
Summer screamed internally. As if Iโd ever dare to make Havenbrookโs Bossman a side piece.
Afraid this misunderstanding would cost her the remaining 500 million, she took a steadying breath, softened her tone, and coaxed, โYouโre not the other man.โ
With that, she subtly attempted to retreat, hoping to put some distance between them. But in the next instant, a large hand gripped her waist. With a firm tug, she was pulled into an unyielding, ice-cold embrace.
Summer trembled slightly, her body tensing as she worried someone might walk in at any moment. Fraserโs eyes darkened as he studied her intently, as if trying to decipher her every thought.
โWhy?โ
Summer struggled, but his grip was unrelenting. Realizing she had no way out, she exhaled softly and closed her eyes. โYou were my first.โ
Fraser froze. His expression wavered for the briefest moment, clearly caught off guard. His gaze deepened, his eyes like an abyss, unreadable. He said nothing.
Under his unwavering scrutiny, Summer felt her scalp tingle with discomfort. She cleared her throat and explained, โThat day, I officially broke up with Trevor. Thatโs whyโฆ thatโs why it happened. Youโre not the other man.โ
She would never have entangled herself with another man while still involved with Trevor. Even if she had been intoxicated that night.
Fraser watched her, his gaze trailing over the faint blush on her cheeks, the shimmering hesitance in her eyes. She looked flustered, like a startled fawn, unsure whether to run or stay.
A slow, amused smile tugged at his lips. โSo, Ms. Stewart, are you saying you want me to take responsibility?โ
Summerโs eyes widened slightly. That wasnโt what she meant. She only wanted Fraser to understand that she had broken up with Trevor, and that she wasnโt reckless. She didnโt want him to think she was a liar.
But then, in a lazy drawl, he chuckled. โIf anyone should take responsibility, itโs you.โ
Summer blinked, momentarily stunned, staring at him in confusion. Fraser reached out with ease, his fingertips grazing her earlobe. It was warm and soft.
