Chapter 117
I offered him a glass of wine, and he gave me the respect I deserved. Next, I paid my respects to Mr. Schultz and Mr. Esparza. These two bosses, having witnessed Reynaldo drink the wine I offered, could no longer afford to be difficult.
I returned to my seat, smiling, and said, "Because we attach great importance to this investment negotiation and value all executives, both of our company's bosses attended." My presence may have caused some unhappiness; I apologize. Ultimately, the investment decision rests with you. Regardless of my abilities, it wouldn't hurt to hear my explanation before deciding, right? Let's have a meal and catch up.
Mr. Schultz and Mr. Esparza instinctively looked at Reynaldo. When he remained silent, they merely hummed. Seeing little resistance, I distributed copies of the project materials I'd prepared. As expected, they didn't open them, tossing the documents aside with disdainful expressions.
Ignoring this, I smiled and explained the project's advantages and potential benefits. Mr. Esparza and Mr. Schultz clearly sought Reynaldo's favor, following his lead. Their investment depended on Reynaldo's decision, so I focused my attention on persuading him.
I sat beside Reynaldo with a bottle of wine. He gave me a meaningful look and said bluntly, "Trying to seduce me, huh? Too bad it won't work." My intention was simply to be near him for easy conversation and toasts; in his eyes, it appeared "seductive."
Winston's face hardened. Grabbing my arm, he told Reynaldo, "Invest in my project if you wish, but there's no need for such harsh words."
Although my achievements and career may not match his, I would never allow my employees to use their appearance to attract investment. With that, he looked at me and said, "Ralda, come over here!"
Reynaldo leaned back, watching Winston and me with a playful look. The sarcasm on his handsome face made me uncomfortable. He blew a smoke ring and smirked at Winston, "So, what was your purpose in calling her?"
"I said, I didn't know it would be you who came!" Winston retorted coldly.
Reynaldo chuckled lightly, "Is that so?"
Seeing their animosity, I felt panicked. How could we continue discussing investment with this tension? My sole goal is to secure investment for Winston, so I no longer owe him anything.
I freed myself from Winston's grasp and smiled at him, saying, "It's okay, I'll speak to Mr. Humphrey first. Our project has immense potential, with high probability of significant returns. Mr. Humphrey is astute and perceptive; I believe he'll be interested."
Reynaldo smiled, remaining silent and casual. He clearly wasn't here for the project, but for me. He knew I would represent Clicks Media at this meeting. But how and when did he learn this?
When he called me today, his tone suggested he was unaware I worked for Winston. Even I only recently learned Winston was our company's head. I recalled Winston convincing me to secure the investment. Did he intentionally leak information to Reynaldo?
I dismissed these troubling thoughts, raised my glass to Reynaldo, and continued explaining the project's advantages, striving to persuade him. Reynaldo ignored the project but drank all the wine I offered. Mr. Esparza and Mr. Schultz likely believed Reynaldo intended to punish me with alcohol.
