Chapter 119

Mr. Esparza chuckled. โ€œWhat do you mean by โ€˜going too farโ€™? Since weโ€™re discussing business over dinner, drinking is inevitable. If your company canโ€™t afford it, then donโ€™t play!โ€

Mr. Schultz sneered at Winston. โ€œThatโ€™s right! Just a few drinks, and Mr. Humphrey is already impatient? His temperament and determination are far superior. No wonder Mr. Humphrey succeeds, while you struggle to secure investment.โ€

Almost everyone in Freybourne knew the two Humphrey brothers didnโ€™t get along. Reynaldo had always been the neglected child, while Winston basked in the spotlight. Previously, when the Humphrey family held prestige and Reynaldo hadn't yet prospered, Winston was lauded, and Reynaldo was dismissed. Now, with Reynaldo's success, the situation had dramatically reversed. The irony wasn't lost on anyone.

The world was still ruled by power. Winston clutched the hand beside him, his face pale.

Chapter 139

I saw unwillingness, anger, and surprising patience in his usually gentle eyes. Heโ€™d grown up in the spotlight, but constant comparisons to Reynaldo created a deep sense of disparity.

I took a deep breath and smiled at the two bosses. โ€œYouโ€™ve misunderstood. We are sincere, but our boss is considerate of his employees. He was concerned about alcohol harming my stomach, thatโ€™s all.โ€

Actually, our boss is very capable. Clicks Media isn't a small company, and you can look forward to our projectโ€™s success.

โ€œHuh!โ€ Reynaldo chuckled lightly, his tone laced with irony.

I ignored him, picking up the wine and laughing. โ€œEight glasses? I can handle it.โ€ I looked at Reynaldo. โ€œMr. Humphrey, donโ€™t forget what you said.โ€ I immediately finished the first glass. The strong liquor burned going down. I was grateful to Lavonne for building my alcohol tolerance.

I picked up the second glass and drained it. Eight glasses is nothing; itโ€™s like sipping herb soup.

Chapter 119

However, after the fourth glass, my stomach burned intensely, my head swam, and my throat throbbed. I leaned on the table, my brow furrowed. In a hazy vision, I saw Reynaldo blowing smoke rings, his cold black eyes fixed on me. Afraid of his impatience, I quickly picked up the fifth glass.

Just as I was about to drink, a large hand grabbed my wrist. Winston looked at me, his expression complex. โ€œRalda, stop. I donโ€™t want this investment anymore.โ€

I shook my head, pulling away his hand. โ€œNo, I promised, and Iโ€™ll keep my word. Four glasses left; I canโ€™t quit now. The first four would be wasted otherwise.โ€

Anton suddenly said to Reynaldo, โ€œLet me drink for her.โ€

Reynaldo smirked. โ€œFeeling sorry for her? Then why did you bring her?โ€ He added, โ€œSince you brought her, donโ€™t act so pitiful and hypocritical.โ€

Anton frowned, about to speak, but I shook his arm and smiled. โ€œItโ€™s alright, Mr. Pruitt. Iโ€™ve drunk before. Donโ€™t worry.โ€

Chapter 119

A flicker of complexity crossed Antonโ€™s deep eyes. He looked at Reynaldo sarcastically. โ€œI didnโ€™t expect Mr. Humphrey to truly despise his ex-wife, as the rumors suggest. But, Mr. Humphrey, as a CEO, isn't this rather petty?โ€

I lowered my gaze at the wine, a bitter smile playing on my lips. Everyone knew Reynaldo disliked me, even Mr. Pruitt! His disgust had never been hidden. Luckily, I was about to break up with him.

โ€œRegarding her?โ€ Reynaldo chuckled. He sat up straight, calmly looking at me. โ€œThey say Iโ€™m targeting you. What do you think?โ€
