I dialed his number repeatedly, but it remained unconnected. A wave of unease washed over me. Arriving at the hospital, I went directly to Quentin's ward, only to find it empty; the bedding and mattress were gone.

A nurse passed by, and I quickly asked her about the patient who had occupied the room. She checked the ward round list and replied, “Are you referring to Quentin? He was discharged this morning.”

“Discharged?” I exclaimed. Quentin had said he'd be staying for another two months! How could he be discharged so suddenly? Why hadn't he contacted me about finding a new place? Even more frightening, why couldn't I reach him by phone? My anxiety intensified with each passing thought.

I hurriedly asked the nurse, “Did he handle the discharge himself, or did someone else do it for him?”

“A very beautiful girl accompanied him,” she recalled. “His leg wasn't fully healed, and the doctors advised him to stay longer for rehabilitation. But he insisted on leaving, and his medical expenses were refunded.”

A beautiful girl… the girl my brother liked. If he'd handled the discharge himself, Reynaldo wouldn't have taken him. Why the sudden discharge? Why the unreachable phone? My unease deepened. Reynaldo’s terrifying presence from last night’s nightmare fueled my fear. I decided to visit my parents.

However, upon leaving the Inpatient Department, I saw Reynaldo emerging from a luxury car. My heart pounded. I quickly ducked behind a nearby hedge.

Reynaldo, impeccably dressed in a black shirt, exuded a noble yet intimidating aura. His beautiful eyes held a chilling hostility. He approached the Inpatient Department with his bodyguards, his gloomy presence undiminished by the autumn sun. He was a changed man, and my fear of him intensified. The darkness within him was far greater than I'd ever imagined.

As they approached, I hid myself completely behind the bushes.

“Mr. Humphrey, we’ve learned Ms. Duffy’s brother will be at this hospital for a while. We can stake out the ward and catch her when she visits.”

“Heh, waiting for the rabbit by the stump?” Reynaldo chuckled darkly. “But I can’t wait that long.”

His chilling laughter sent shivers down my spine. He was clearly here to use Quentin to force me to appear. Fortunately, Quentin had been discharged early.

I still couldn't understand why I couldn't reach him. I needed to see my parents and Quentin and ensure their safety before I could relax. Before Reynaldo emerged, I quickly fled the hospital.

As I entered my car, an unfamiliar number called. Few people knew my new number, only Quentin and Lavonne. Assuming it was Quentin, I answered.

“Ralda, it’s your brother.”

Relief flooded me. “Brother, are you alright? Where are you?”

“I’m at Kimora’s, and I'm using her phone.”

Kimora… the girl he likes. Were they a couple?

I quickly asked, “Why couldn’t I reach you? Did something happen? I just saw Reynaldo heading here to find you.”
