Chapter 141
Trevin waited outside the door. He smiled and said, "Good morning, girl. Let's go to work together." Since I was already planning to cram onto the bus, I nodded in agreement.
However, upon reaching the downstairs hallway, I saw him pulling out an electric scooter, leaving me speechless. Surprised, I asked, "Do you ride this to work every day?"
"Yeah," he replied, sitting on the scooter. "My mom says it saves money; I just need to charge it daily. And it's a cheap secondhand one I foundโonly a few hundred." He then shouted, "Hey girl, come on, get on!"
I quickly waved my hand. "No, it's not necessary. I'll take the bus."
Yesterday, I'd noticed the road conditions; the closer I got to the construction site, the more difficult it became to walk, with all the potholes. What if this scooter wasn't stable and he fell? I'd fallen before, but it didn't matter; what mattered was the baby. Besides, we weren't particularly close, so it felt like he was constantly offering rides.
Trevin called out, "It's okay, girl, come up quickly."
I shook my head. "Thank you, but I'm used to the bus. I'll go this way. Bye." I turned and headed for the bus stop.
Sometimes, Trevin and Auntie seemed overly enthusiastic. Trevin quickly caught up on his scooter, riding beside me the whole way and constantly urging me to join him. I refused continuously. People gave us strange looks, assuming we were arguing, oblivious to the real situation.
I felt I needed to distance myself from Trevin. I arrived at the bus stop, and Trevin sighed in frustration. "Well, girl, I'm leaving first."
"Um, be careful on your way."
I breathed a sigh of relief as he rode away. I arrived at the library relatively early; it wasn't crowded.
Chapter 141
Perhaps because I'd bought them drinks yesterday, the supervisor who called me remembered me. He enthusiastically explained my daily tasks. Since we'd hired a group of temporary documentersโessentially people for odd jobs and assistanceโthe requirements weren't strict. Our work involved filling out forms and inputting data into the archives.
The work was straightforward and easy to learn. I was quite busy, basically working non-stop all morning. However, the atmosphere was good; nobody bullied anyone, and everyone worked diligently.
At noon, after work, I joined my colleagues in the staff canteen. It was large, with a wide variety of food. I got my meal and sat with my coworkers, preparing to eat when a person sat down opposite me. It was Trevin.
"Esmeralda, what a coincidence," he said with a smile.
I nodded and smiled, remaining silent. He then placed a bottle of orange juice in front of me. "Esmeralda, I bought this just now, specifically for you. Don't you girls like this?"
"No, no, it's fine," I said, quickly handing it back. "I rarely drink beverages, thank you for your kindness."
"It's okay, don't be polite with me." He stubbornly pushed it back, grabbed his tray, and ran off.
I frowned, feeling a little annoyed. My colleague nudged my arm and chuckled, "Is he trying to pursue you?"
Startled, I said, "No, it can't be."
"Oh, it's obvious. He's interested and wants to pursue you."
I pursed my lips, recalling Trevin and Auntie's strange behavior over the past two days, feeling anxious. Before, I'd just thought they were kind; now, even my colleagues could see it. I needed to explain things to Trevin.
The office here usually had a relatively early finish time.
