Chapter 161

Before, when I was with her, I only found her overly enthusiastic, a bit annoying, but I didn't dislike her much. Now, looking at her, I sense far more hostility, her words and actions condescending. Has she already abandoned her kind and gentle facade?

In averting my gaze, I met Reynaldo's icy eyes again. He laughed coldly, a slight curve of his lips revealing sneering mockery. It was as if he said, "Look, without me, what kind of life are you living?" I lowered my gaze hurriedly; my mind was in complete chaos.

Now that Reynaldo has found me in this shanty town, if he investigates, he'll easily discover my address and job. I didn't know if he would spare me. If he retaliated, I'd not only lose my job but also my tiny dwelling. I was so annoyed! My life and work had finally stabilized, but unfortunately, I'd run into him.

It was strange. Why didn't he remain in comfortable surroundings and instead bring Kimberly to this shanty town? I thought anxiously.

Trevin suddenly exclaimed, "Esmeralda, I ordered several dishesโ€”beef, prawn, even oyster scallops. Since someone's treating us, you should eat more later." As soon as I heard Trevin's words, I became even more upset. I never intended for Kimberly and Reynaldo to treat us; the dishes he ordered would cost at least half my salary. I was really frustrated! I must keep my distance from Kimberly in the future.

The other dishes arrived quickly, but the king crab took longer to prepare. As soon as it was served, Trevin ate as if he'd never seen food before. "Esmeralda, hurry up, it's delicious! I've never had such a tasty dish. High-end restaurants really are different," he said.

I thought about the emperor crab priced at 3,888, but I lacked appetite, so I just ate a few spare ribs. Trevin ate with gusto, and nearby, Reynaldo watched with constant, light laughter. It seemed like they were mocking me; I felt like a "starving ghost."

At that moment, I heard Kimberly say to Reynaldo, "Reynaldo, how did Ms. Duffy fall for a man like that? Look at him; he looks like he's never had a decent meal." I glanced at Trevin; he was eating voraciously, oblivious to Kimberly's words. Kimberly turned to Reynaldo and said, "Reynaldo, it seems Ms. Duffy is struggling. She can't even afford a decent meal. Should we help her?"

I couldn't help but pull my lip. Where did she see that I was struggling? As long as I didn't encounter them, I couldn't describe how happy I was! Reynaldo glanced at me coldly and said flatly, "Some people bring it upon themselves and don't deserve pity." Oh, when did I ever ask for your pity? I grumbled, hoping Trevin would finish quickly so we could leave.

I don't know how long it took, but the emperor crab finally arrived. Trevin looked at the well-prepared crab, his eyes shining. "So this thing is eaten like this!" he exclaimed. He then took out large pliers. "Esmeralda, come here, there's a lot of meat here for you to eat." I shook my head and put it in his bowl. "You eat it." I checked and found out that pregnant women shouldn't eat crab. Moreover, with Reynaldo and Kimberly present, I had absolutely no appetite.

Little did I know that as soon as I placed the crab claw in Trevin's bowl, Kimberly's muffled laughter came through: "Reynaldo, look how well Ms. Duffy treats her boyfriend; she even refuses to eat the best part herself and gives it to him." Trevin also heard this and laughed foolishly. I furrowed my brows fiercely and glared at Kimberly in anger. Sometimes, I really wished I could shut this woman's mouth.
