Chapter 174
Reynaldo stood up suddenly. He looked down and sneered, โSpeaking of which, you work so hard, why didnโt your boyfriend come to comfort you?โ
โIโll say it again, he wasnโt my boyfriend!โ I growled angrily.
Reynaldo sneered.
Bennett came running over, panting, holding bread and milk. Seeing Reynaldo, he quickly and respectfully called out, โBoss.โ He then glanced at me and said to Reynaldo, โBoss, donโt worry, Iโve been keeping an eye on her and wonโt let her slack off.โ
After speaking, Bennett threw the bread and milk at me. I was so hungry I didnโt care. I opened the bread and began eating.
I guess I looked unattractive eating. Bennett clicked his tongue twice and quickly asked Reynaldo to sit. Reynaldo leaned back, smiling as he watched me devour the bread. After a while, he leaned in and whispered to Bennett; I couldnโt hear.
Before long, Bennett walked towards me.
Chapter 174
โAh!โ Bennett kicked my foot. โJust now the boss said that as long as youโre willing to give in and say you canโt handle this job, heโll give you a way out and not punish you.โ
I passed him and looked at Reynaldo. He lazily sat, smoking a cigarette, a perpetual smirk of derision on his lips.
โHey, I was talking to you!โ Bennett kicked my foot again.
I looked up and said softly, โTell him I can do this job.โ
Bennett furrowed his brow. โI didnโt realize you were so cunning, deliberately rejecting the bossโs kind offer to get his attention. But itโs not me saying this, the big boss finally wants to give you a chance; I advise you to take it and stop while youโre ahead. There are still so many bricks here; be careful not to exhaust yourself.โ
โThank you for Bennettโs concern.โ
โWho cares about you, you shameless woman!โ Bennett exclaimed angrily, his face wrinkled with frustration. โYou, being such a person, really deserve it!โ
With that, he ran back and told Reynaldo. Reynaldo smirked at me, then got up and left. I sneered at his back as he walked away.
Chapter 174
You want me to give in and then mock me for not enduring hardships, right? No way!
I transferred the money for the milk and bread to Bennett. He glanced at me, a hint of complexity flickering across his face. Seeing me, he looked at me with disdain, snorted, and turned away.
I pursed my lips and got up to continue working. After eating the bread and milk, I felt much better.
By half past five, when Bennett finished work, he eagerly ran to the cafeteria. I was afraid of meeting my colleagues and being mocked, so I deliberately arrived more than half an hour late. There werenโt many people, but Trevin was there, with several colleagues who had mocked me at noon. As soon as I entered, they started pointing and whispering. I ignored them and sat to eat.
Trevin used to be enthusiastic when he saw me. This time, he probably didnโt want his colleagues to make fun of him, so he didnโt even say hello. Thatโs fine; Iโm happy to have peace and quiet.
After finishing my meal, I ran to carry the waste bricks. We spent the whole afternoon moving; there isnโt much left. I estimate weโll need six or seven more trips. My fingers hurt, burning hot. I looked at my dirty and wounded hands, and a touch of bitterness surged in my heart. If it were Kimberly, the man wouldnโt bear to see her suffer like this. I donโt know if itโs because of pregnancy, but I easily feel sad and upset.
I blew on my fingers and waved away the bad emotions. I pushed the cart to the pile of discarded bricks. I was picking up the bricks when someone ran over to help. I turned and saw it was Trevin.
