Chapter 187

Kimberly clutched Reynaldo's arm and cried, her face contorted with pain. "Am I going to die? Reynaldo... am I going to die?" she sobbed.

"Nonsense!" Reynaldo's face tightened. He immediately scooped her up and strode toward the emergency room.

I watched his anxious form, my own eyes feeling strangely dry. What he cared about most was still her.

Taking a deep breath, I swallowed my tears and went to have my blood drawn, clutching the requisition form. Afterward, I proceeded to the ultrasound room.

As the probe glided across my belly, my heart inexplicably pounded. I felt a surge of nervous energy. Eventually, the ultrasound report arrived. It showed the pregnancy was nine weeks along, the image resembling a tiny human figure. A wave of excitement washed over me.

I rushed to the blood test department to collect the results. Then, armed with both reports, I went to the second floor to see the chief physician.

As Kimberly had said, seeking medical treatment was exhausting. Thinking of Reynaldo by Kimberly's side, right here in this hospital, while I navigated my prenatal checkups alone, carrying his child, a bitter, uncomfortable feeling settled in my heart. Cutting off my feelings for him, as I'd intended, wasn't proving easy.

I sighed, steeled my nerves, and walked to the second floor. I showed the doctor the ultrasound and blood test results. He frowned for a minute or two, and during that time, I felt a wave of tension, terrified something might be wrong with the baby.

"Is my baby okay?" I asked anxiously.

The doctor glanced at me. "You've strained the fetus, and the blood work isn't good. There's a risk of miscarriage."

"Ah? What should we do?" I asked, fear gripping my heart.

"Don't worry too much for now. As long as there's no bleeding, the risk isn't major."

The doctor looked at me. "Did you not abstain from sexual activity?"

I blushed, too embarrassed to answer.

He clicked his tongue. "You're not even three months pregnant. It's best to ask your husband to be patient. If he truly can't abstain, be careful and avoid intense activity."

"Oh," I nodded, my face burning.

"Alright, don't worry too much. I'll prescribe some medication to prevent miscarriage. Take good care of yourself and keep your prenatal appointments."

"Okay, thank you, doctor."

I took back the reports and ultrasound images. Seeing the tiny figure, I couldn't help but ask, "Are these two my babies?"

"Yes, they've just begun to take human form. They'll grow more as the months pass."

Imagining them as two chubby babies, coming to me, warmed my heart. Yet, the doctor's warning of miscarriage lingered, leaving me nervous and anxious.

Fortunately, the doctor prescribed two bottles of pregnancy-sustaining medicine, along with calcium and folic acid tablets. She said that if I took the medication on time and was careful, everything would be fine.

I reached the pharmacy window and gave the pharmacist my prescription.

The pharmacist glanced at me. "Hello, please scan the code to pay first."

He handed me back the list, then turned to retrieve my medicine.

I instinctively patted myself down for my phone. A moment later, panic set in; I hadn't brought it.

I checked my remaining change: a little over twenty. The medication cost over eight hundred. The pharmacist returned with the medicine.

"I'm so sorry," I stammered, "I forgot my phone."

He frowned. "I have many customers daily. If you think the medicine is expensive, you can choose not to buy it, but don't cause trouble here, okay?"
