Chapter 208
I ignored her and looked around the office for available seats. At that moment, Kimberly clapped her hands to silence everyone.
โExcuse me, everyone. Let me introduce you to Esmeralda, Ms. Duffy.โ She was specifically hired by me for odd jobs, so you can assign her any difficult or unpleasant tasks. After all, she's earning a salary and can't eat for free, can she?
โWow, Mr. Humphrey is indeed so kind and generous. He even arranged a job for her.โ
โYeah, if she were my ex-wife, I would have kicked her out long ago.โ
โTsk, you didnโt see her suitcase; she must have been crying and pleading with Mr. Humphrey, saying she had nowhere to go. Thatโs how he pitied her and gave her a job.โ
I ignored their mockery and silently went to the farthest corner with my suitcase. I looked around; there were no extra workstations. Only this corner had enough space for one. Furthermore, it was farthest from the presidentโs office.
I took a short break and then went to the Personnel Department for a desk and chair. The warehouse was on the second floor. The chair was fineโit could be moved onto the elevatorโbut the table was difficult to manage. I asked the warehouse staff for help getting the table onto the elevator, but they ignored me. Everyone in this company knew about my relationship with Reynaldo, and that he despised me. To gain their cooperation, I needed Reynaldo to treat me wellโan almost impossible task.
Finally, I struggled alone, moving the table to the elevator entrance. Just as the elevator doors opened, I froze. Inside, stood Winston. A masked and hatted man, resembling Anton, stood beside him.
โRalda?โ Winston looked at me in shock, a flicker of excitement crossing his handsome face.
โRalda, where have you been? You even changed your phone number. Iโve been looking for you everywhere.โ
I was surprised. Iโd unexpectedly run into Winston at Reynaldoโs company. On reflection, it wasnโt surprising, considering their past collaboration.
The masked man glanced at my table and asked faintly, โWhat are you doing?โ It was Anton. I remembered Lavonne mentioning Antonโs current status as a top male celebrity. No wonder he was disguised; otherwise, the front of Reynaldo Company would be overrun with reporters.
โYeah, Ralda, what are you doing?โ Winston asked again.
I pursed my lips. โI was moving to my workstation.โ
โYour workstation?โ Winston furrowed his brow, his gaze intense. โWhat do you mean? You want to work under his command?โ
I nodded silently.
โRalda!โ He grabbed my shoulder, his voice urgent and angry. โWhy are you here? Isnโt my company good enough? Whatever heโs offering, Iโll double it. Just name your price.โ
โIt wasnโt a salary issue.โ I pushed his hand away, unsure what to say. โActually, it doesnโt matter where you work; itโs never really about the job.โ
โThatโs different. Given your history with him, heโll definitely use work to bully you.โ
โRalda, listen to me. Go anywhere you want, just not here, and donโt involve yourself with him again, okay?โ
I shook my head gently. โThank you for your concern, but please donโt interfere.โ
Winston stiffened, forcing a bitter smile. โAre you still blaming me? For sending you to him that night to seek investment?โ
That nightโฆ it felt like a lifetime ago. Since then, Iโd run, but no matter how far I wandered, I eventually returned here. Winston stared intently, his expression full of bitterness.
