Chapter 214

A knock startled me awake. I stared blankly at the unfamiliar room, taking a moment to realize it was my newly rented house. Checking my phone, I saw Iโ€™d only slept twenty minutes.

Knock, knock, knock! The knocking resumed. Remembering my takeout order, I rushed to the door. As I opened it, Reynaldo, radiating an oppressive aura, materialized before me.

My eyes widened incredulously. Heโ€™d found my new rental so quickly! Was I dreaming? I pinched myselfโ€”ouch! It hurt. This was real. Reynaldo was here. But hadnโ€™t he gone to dinner with Kimberly? And how could he have found me so soon after I rented the place? Had he been following me?

Before I could process my shock, he placed a large hand on my door, pushing it wide open. I stumbled back as he swaggered in, acting as if this were his own home.

Frustrated, I asked, "Reynaldo, what are you doing?"

He looked around my room, his arrogant demeanor unbearable, as if mocking my humble surroundings. I wanted to kick him out, but I dared not. Instead, I retorted, "Stop looking. My shabby place can't compare to your mansion. You better leave quickly and not lower Mr. Humphrey's status!"

Reynaldo turned to me, his expression faint. He asked, "Why didn't you go back to the villa? You lived there your whole life."

"Unfortunately, that place isn't my home anymore," I replied.

"Then, shall I give it to you?"

I trembled. What did he mean?

Reynaldo approached, a faint smile playing on his lips, his face otherwise impassive. Earlier at the company, heโ€™d lost his temper repeatedly, even telling me at the entrance that if anything happened to me, it would be my fault. So, what did this sudden offer mean?

He stood before me, his dark eyes intense. "Give you the villa, let it be your home again. You'll live there forever, okay?"

I frowned. Was this another humiliation tactic? My family's villa, located downtown, was vast, luxurious, and worth billions a few years ago. He wanted to give it back to me? It seemed too good to be true, and he wouldn't be so generous without conditions.

"No need," I said lightly. "It's just a house now, not my home. I don't need it, nor do I care for it."

"Then shall I bring back your parents and brother?"

I frowned. "Reynaldo, what tricks are you playing?" I didn't want to guess his motives; he was too unpredictable.

I said coldly, "Your retaliation against me is enough. Don't target my family."

"Huh!" he chuckled. "Do you think giving you the villa and returning your family was an act of revenge?"

"Wasn't it?"

"Huh!" He chuckled again, suddenly grabbing my collar. "Let me tell you, if I wanted to kill you all, it would be easier than squashing an ant! No need for games!"

His forehead showed a fierce glint. I believed him.
