Chapter 219
After all, with his wealth and status, it was only fitting for him to order a large spread of dishes. Reynaldo also ordered me a glass of my favorite juiceโorange juice. I didn't bother with polite formalities. As soon as it arrived, I started drinking.
The man across from me watched silently, his intense gaze unwavering. I grew nervous under his scrutiny, grabbing a nearby magazine and offering it, "If you're bored, you can take a look."
Reynaldo tugged at his lips and casually flipped through the magazine. After a while, he asked, "Do you like eating here?"
I nodded honestly. Looking at all of Freybourne, this restaurant's food was my favorite; I couldn't get enough of it. I hadn't been back since my family's bankruptcy.
"Then, how about I buy it?" Reynaldo said nonchalantly.
I was so shocked I almost choked on my orange juice, stammering, "No, it's not necessary."
Reynaldo looked up, asking, "What's wrong?"
I frowned. "You may be wealthy, but there's no need to buy this restaurant."
At that moment, the waiter arrived with the dishes, bringing an end to the conversation. I looked at Reynaldo's calm, handsome face, wondering if he would really buy the restaurant. I suspected that, with his vengeful nature, he wouldn't let it go so easily.
The aroma of the food filled the air, awakening my appetite. I quickly forgot our previous conversation and picked up my fork to eat. Since my family's bankruptcy, I hadn't had the chance to enjoy this food againโI truly missed it.
I was eating heartily when I noticed Reynaldo staring intently, his fork untouched. Confused, I asked, "Didn't you say you hadn't had dinner either? Why aren't you eating?"
"I suddenly thought of a question," he said, his gaze profound.
My heart skipped a beat. "What's the problem?"
"We've done it so many times, why haven't you gotten pregnant yet?"
I was drinking soup. As soon as he said this, I was so shocked the soup flew from my mouth. Reynaldo slowly handed me a tissue, his eyes shining intensely.
I pretended to remain calm, wiping my mouth and saying, "How would I know? Anyway, I wasn't pregnant."
Reynaldo frowned, his eyes piercing. "Last time, you were secretive about getting medicine at the hospitalโฆ"
My heart tightened. Could he have guessed I was using birth control? Wasn't he too clever?
"That medicine, could it be a contraceptive pill?"
I was extremely nervous. He had said something completely unexpected. I laughed, surprised. "You're thinking too much. I'm just taking calcium supplements for my health."
"Why haven't you been able to get pregnant?" He stared at me, determined to get an answer. He probably didn't want to think about it either; it's an embarrassing question to ask.
I frowned. "Why did you insist on me getting pregnant?"
Reynaldo's gaze shifted, becoming complicated. A sadness seemed impossible to dispel. He asked, "Doโ"
"Of course not," I answered without hesitation.
His eyes instantly turned cold, the sadness replaced by resentment. He said, "My grandmother eagerly wants a great-grandchild, so, as I said before, whether you want to or not, you have to give birth to a baby!"
A wave of self-mockery washed over me. He wanted a baby, it turned out, to comfort his grandmother. I'd been right all along; if I'd told him I was pregnant, he would have imprisoned me and taken the baby.
I clenched my hands. "Since your grandmother is so eager for a great-grandchild, you could have Kimberly give birth for you."
"Shut up!"
He roared, his narrowed eyes fierce and terrifying.
