Listen to this chapter:

I always felt that earning money this way was detrimental to my self-esteem. But then I realized I had absolutely no room to resist him. He didnโ€™t give me a raise, and I was taken advantage of. So, why not add it if I could? A hundred thousand monthly salary! If I worked for three months, Iโ€™d have three hundred thousand. By then, I could hide in a remote place to give birth, and that three hundred thousand would support me for a while.

As I was contemplating this, Reynaldo suddenly mischievously bit my neck. I exclaimed in pain and looked at him. This man was really like a dog; he loved biting people. Reynaldo squinted his dark, brooding eyes and coldly asked, โ€œCan you still daydream at a time like this? Who are you thinking about? Winston?โ€ It seems Winston will hold a grudge for life about what happened between us earlier. โ€œSince you were constantly thinking about him,โ€ he continued, โ€œwhy didnโ€™t you go with him yesterday when you had the chance?โ€

Well, Esmeralda, let me tell you, even if you liked him, you could only stay by my side for the rest of your life. I wanted to fly away with him, unlessโ€ฆ I died. He said the last two words through gritted teeth, his expression changing instantly. The desire in his eyes quickly turned to hostility. I was speechless. This man was truly unpredictable, his imagination so vivid it left one dumbfounded. He used to get angry and always took it out on me.

I grabbed his arm and whispered, โ€œDonโ€™t overthink it. I was just wondering if the 100,000 monthly salary is true.โ€ Reynaldo paused, then his black eyes stared intently at me. โ€œReally?โ€ he asked. โ€œOf course,โ€ I replied, โ€œthe thing I love most now is money.โ€ Reynaldo chuckled. โ€œI never thought Ms. Duffy would become so materialistic.โ€ I furrowed my brows at his mocking tone. Whatโ€™s the matter? Liking Winston isnโ€™t allowed, and liking money isnโ€™t either? So I had to like him, right?

I donโ€™t know what was going on in his mind, but he insisted on having a woman who had once humiliated and disgusted him. Does my liking him really give him such a sense of accomplishment? Ignoring his sneer, I said, โ€œWho doesnโ€™t like money? If you donโ€™t like money, why do you earn so much?โ€ โ€œI earned so much money becauseโ€ฆโ€ He stopped abruptly, staring deeply at me. With a mocking tone, he said, โ€œForget it. Youโ€™re a heartless woman; even if I told you, you wouldnโ€™t believe it.โ€

I rolled my eyes speechlessly. He didnโ€™t say anything, simply concluding I wouldnโ€™t believe him. He really has no trust in me at all. I muttered, โ€œIf you donโ€™t want to say it, then forget it.โ€ Anyway, he didnโ€™t make money for me, so I didnโ€™t need to know why he worked so hard. He still looked at me with those deep eyes. I felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze and pushed him away. โ€œBoss, CEO, I really have to go to work now. I canโ€™t play around with you anymore.โ€

He grabbed my wrist and pressed it against my head. He spoke in a low voice, coaxing, โ€œSince you like money so much, you should behave better in the future.โ€ โ€œ100,000 monthly salary,โ€ he continued. โ€œI wonโ€™t deceive you; Iโ€™ll also give you additional rewards. Of course, if you could get pregnant, I would give you as many babies as you want.โ€

โ€œThen, do you give me all your assetsโ€”your company, the luxury cars, and villas?โ€ I said, intending to provoke him. To my surprise, he didnโ€™t get angry. He laughed, saying, โ€œYou have quite the appetite.โ€ โ€œGreed is human nature, isnโ€™t it?โ€ I replied. โ€œHmm,โ€ he nodded in rare agreement. โ€œGreed is indeed human nature. I was just too greedy, which is why I spared you those three years.โ€

I frowned deeply. What did he mean by that? How come I couldnโ€™t understand anything at all? I wanted to ask him more, but he had already sealed my lips.
