Chapter 234

I nodded lightly and opened my computer to prepare for work.

โ€œHey, Melany, did you finish yesterdayโ€™s sales report? Mr. Humphrey is pushing for it.โ€

โ€œIs it time to send it in now, after itโ€™s been done?โ€

โ€œYes, hurry up, Mr. Humphrey is pushing.โ€

Melany stood up slowly, holding the report. I thought she was going to send me to the presidentโ€™s office, but she suddenly approached me. I furrowed my brows and looked at her. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œTake this report and deliver it to Mr. Humphrey,โ€ Melany casually tossed the report onto my desk.

My face darkened. โ€œYou can go yourself; I have other things to attend to.โ€

โ€œOh really?โ€ Melanyโ€™s anger flared. โ€œYou, a janitor, dare to act high and mighty? I asked you to deliver a report, and youโ€™re making excuses. Are you trying to get paid without working?โ€

โ€œYeah, bring me the information. Iโ€™ll make this form myself.โ€ The secretary whoโ€™d previously asked me to make a form snatched the documents back and commanded, โ€œYou, deliver the report to Melany first!โ€

โ€œYeah, you, a handyman, shouldnโ€™t just do whatever we tell you to do, right?โ€

I sneered inwardly. Everyone knew Reynaldo was in a foul mood, like an angry lion, and no one dared approach him. Why should I take that risk?

I pushed the report to Melany and said coldly, โ€œYou can deliver it yourself!โ€

โ€œOh my!โ€ Melany exclaimed, her eyes wide with anger. โ€œAre you going to give it or not?โ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ I said expressionlessly.

At that moment, the secretary near the presidentโ€™s office urged, โ€œHey, what are you guys doing? Mr. Humphrey is urging for the report; send it in quickly, why are you dawdling?โ€

Melany was extremely anxious, pulling on my shoulder. โ€œIf you donโ€™t get me in there, donโ€™t expect to have a good time in this office ever again!โ€

I laughed angrily. Are they trying to bully me?

I pushed away her hand and sneered, โ€œSince youโ€™re so afraid of Mr. Humphrey, why donโ€™t you ask Kimberly to deliver it? Sheโ€™s his favorite.โ€

โ€œAre you not afraid that Mr. Humphrey will see me and be even angrier if I deliver it?โ€

โ€œWhat if Kimberly were in the company, what would you say?!โ€

โ€œYeah, donโ€™t you know? Mr. Humphrey gave Kimberly a privilege. She can come to the company whenever she wants. She usually arrives more than two hours later than us.โ€

I listened quietly; a touch of self-mockery flashed through my heart. It seemed Reynaldo truly favored Kimberly. Thinking back to the humiliation he subjected me to last night, bitterness flooded me again. I was so annoyed; I wanted to escape to a world without Reynaldo.

โ€œHey, are you going to take me in or not?โ€ Melany shook my shoulder again.

She softened her approach. โ€œEsmeralda, why donโ€™t you help me? You are Mr. Humphreyโ€™s ex-wife, and he personally gave you this job. But Iโ€™m different, you know.โ€

Iโ€™d worked hard to get into the company. Iโ€™m a divorced mother with two children; I couldnโ€™t afford to lose this job. Mr. Humphrey was clearly in a bad mood. If I bumped into him and lost my job, how would I support my children?

She was crying and sniffling, as if issuing a death sentence. However, her mention of being a divorced mother with two children made me contemplate my future. In the future, I too will live alone with two children. Will I face similar problems? I hope someone will help me too.

โ€œMelany, why did you have to ask her? Who else could you have asked?โ€

โ€œWho is she? The once arrogant young lady who looked down on everyone. If you tell her these things, itโ€™s hard to imagine her being empathetic!โ€

โ€œYeah, she was probably secretly mocking you in her heart.โ€

A few colleagues gossiped nearby.

I picked up the report and stood up, saying to Melany lightly, โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll help you take it in.โ€
