Chapter 86

I hurriedly asked him about his grandmother's condition, and he said that she was still in the emergency room and her condition was not very good. I immediately became so anxious that I cried. I asked him which hospital he was in, but he didnโ€™t tell me. He only said to come and pick him up.

I sat blankly in front of the gate of the Humphrey family. The sun rose slowly; it was clearly warm, but I felt a chill all over my body. What should I do if something really happened to my grandmother? Iโ€™m afraid Iโ€™m dead, and I canโ€™t redeem this sin. I donโ€™t know how long it had been, but Winston finally came back.

He got out of the car and walked briskly towards me, saying, โ€œRalda, why are you sitting here? Are you okay? Why do you look so pale?โ€ I shook my head and asked him urgently, โ€œDid Grandma come out of the emergency room?โ€

Winston shook his head, โ€œNot yet.โ€

I took a step back, feeling a bit dizzy, and noticed that I felt even colder. Winston quickly embraced me and reassured me, โ€œDonโ€™t worry too much, Grandma will definitely be fine. Two years ago, Grandmaโ€™s condition was even more serious than this time, but the result was still averted.โ€

Two years agoโ€ฆ But that time two years ago, I also hurt my grandmother. My heart ached, and I blurted out to him, โ€œI wanted to go see my grandmother. Can you take me to the hospital?โ€

Winston looked at me with a complex gaze and said, โ€œRalda, why donโ€™t you go and rest for a while? My older brother and my father are here with my grandmother, so she will be fine.โ€ I shook my head, tears streaming down uncontrollably. โ€œItโ€™s because of me that Grandma ended up in the hospital. Please, just take me to the hospital to see her. I beg you.โ€

Winston pursed his lips and said, โ€œAlright.โ€

It was still early at this point, and there was no traffic. Winston quickly brought me to the hospital. On the first floor, outside the emergency room, Reynaldo sat on a chair, his head slightly lowered, unable to see his complexion clearly. Ronan was constantly reproaching him on the side.

โ€œYou said that you had already distanced yourself from the Duffy family, so why did you bring that woman back? You could bring a woman back, but you absolutely couldnโ€™t bring the Duffy familyโ€™s daughter with you. You forgot how the Duffy family used to look at our family. Now itโ€™s fine. That woman has made your grandmother so angry. Letโ€™s see how you handle it. If something unfortunate were to happen to your grandmother, you would die in front of her to atone for your sins.โ€

In the face of Ronanโ€™s reproach, Reynaldo remained silent, not even changing his posture. Ronan snorted in anger and said, โ€œI was really foolish back then. I should have let your mother take you away. Donโ€™t think that you are something just because you are successful now. Itโ€™s just a matter of luck. In my eyes, you still canโ€™t compare to Winston. Really, I was annoyed whenever I saw you!โ€

Ronan angrily shouted the last sentence and stormed off to the smoking room. I looked at Reynaldo with teary eyes, without even the courage to walk towards him. If Grandma really couldnโ€™t be saved, then itโ€™s not him who should be blamed, but me.

The icy hand was suddenly held by a warm big hand. Winston looked at me anxiously and said, โ€œRalda, why are your hands so cold? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?โ€

Reynaldo slowly lifted his head and looked straight at me. Those dark, gloomy eyes were cold and repressed. I trembled all over, broke free from Winstonโ€™s hand, and walked heavily past. I stood in front of Reynaldo, tears in my eyes, and glanced at the closed door of the emergency room. Choking back my sobs, I said to him, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, itโ€™s all my fault. Ifโ€ฆ if something really happened to Grandma, then Iโ€™m willing to apologize with my life.โ€

Reynaldo looked up, his pitch-black eyes staring at me heavily, as if they were deep, terrifying wells. He suddenly sneered, and the sound that fell was like the icy coldness of winter, chilling to the bone.

โ€œStop pretending, okay? You werenโ€™t like this when you scolded my grandmother for acting and broke the bracelet she gave you,โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ฆโ€ I shook my head hastily, tears welling up even more. โ€œI didnโ€™t know that Grandma had such an illness, I really didnโ€™t know, Iโ€™m sorry.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t know?โ€ Reynaldo lowered his gaze, smiling coldly and mockingly. โ€œHow could I not understand your temperament? You were arrogant and looked down on everyone, never once showing any respect for people like us."
