Rachel didnโt bother arguing with Tyler. After all, his appearance had indeed helped her out today.
But she wasnโt naive enough to believe he did it just for her. Tyler was the kind of man who lived for himself. He wasnโt exactly the type to go around doing good deeds out of the kindness of his heart.
So she just said plainly, โThanks for your help today, Mr. Hunt.โ
Tyler rubbed his forehead and glanced at her sideways, clearly dissatisfied with the bare minimum of gratitude. โThatโs it?โ
Rachelโs eyes narrowed slightly. โWhat else do you want?โ
โShouldnโt a real thank-you come with some action?โ He lifted his wrist and checked the time on his watch. โPerfect timing for a late-night snack. I know a great barbecue place. Letโs go.โ
Without waiting for a response, Tyler grabbed Rachel by the wrist and started walking toward his car.
โBut I have plans laterโโ
โEat first, talk later.โ
Rachel hadnโt expected him to be this pushy, but then again, that was just who Tyler was. He did things his own way. Once he decided on something, no one could stop him. Heโd always had that kind of attitude.
Before she could resist, he had already ushered her into the passenger seat. She instinctively turned and tried to get back out.
โNo, seriously, Iโโ
Bang.
The car door slammed shut in her face.
Next second, he was in the driverโs seat. The engine roared to life, and the sudden acceleration pushed her back into the seat. Rachel instinctively grabbed the hand rest for support.
Halfway through the drive, as the car finally slowed, she looked around the interior and realized this wasnโt the same limited-edition car Tyler had driven last time.
โIs your other car still not fixed?โ she asked without thinking.
โYeah, itโs still in the shop.โ
โIโm really sorry. If it werenโt for meโโ
No one had expected Howard to go that insane. He had chased after her and Tyler like a man possessed.
โWell, since you feel so bad, you should treat me to a few more meals,โ Tyler said.
He was driving with his usual languid manner. One hand was on the steering wheel, his body leaned comfortably back, and his other elbow rested on the window ledge.
Rachel was starting to think that every time she saw him he always managed to find some excuse to get her to buy him food.
She couldnโt help but ask, โMr. Hunt, does no one else ever invite you to dinner?โ

Tyler gave her a cold glance. โWhat do you think?โ
Rachel answered honestly. โThen why are you always trying to get me to do it?โ
That made Tyler laugh. โMs. Lloyd, maybe you should do some self-reflection. What else do you have to offer me besides a meal?โ
It took her a second to realize what he meant.
Honestly, she didnโt have much else to offer in return for what heโd done for her. A meal was the only thing she could think of.
Still, she wasnโt going to admit that so easily.
โIโm not completely useless, you know.โ
โOh, of course. Youโve got more to offer than just food. Youโve got quick hands too.โ
His tone was light, like he was making a joke, but the words carried a very specific memory. Rachelโs cheeks instantly flushed bright red. Her ears were burning.
She pursed her lips tightly and mumbled, โCan you not bring that night up again?โ
โWhy not? Itโs a talent,โ Tyler said in a perfectly serious tone.
Rachel clenched her hands in her lap, her face burning all the way to the tips of her ears.
Tylerโs brain truly operated on a different wavelength. Most people wouldโve been embarrassed, but he didnโt even blink.
Who on earth would want a talent like that?
Since Rachel clearly couldnโt shut him up, she changed the subject.
โI do have some responsibility for what happened with Yvette, but I had my reasons. I thought if I introduced her to you, even if it was something short-lived, at least Gerald would think she had a chance.
โIf that worked, I could finally bring my motherโs grave back home. I didnโt want her to be all alone out there anymore.โ
