โThereโs nothing to explain,โ Rachel said calmly.
She knew very well that after what Samantha had just said, there was no way William would believe her. If she ran after them now, it would only make her look guilty.
The more she thought about it, the funnier it seemed.
Did William really think he and Samantha were innocent?
She suddenly had a question on her mind, but at this moment, Tyler was the only one she could ask.
โCan I ask you something?โ
Tyler, probably finding it inconvenient to eat with his sleeves down, slowly rolled them up, revealing a portion of his toned forearms. Under the overhead light, his hands looked even fairer and more slender.
Rachel swallowed hard. What was going on with her brain lately? Why was she suddenly finding Tylerโs hands attractive? Was it just because she hadnโt done that in a while?
She shook her head and forced the inappropriate thoughts out of her mind.
Tyler picked up a beef skewer. Even the way he ate looked mesmerizing to her.
โAsk away.โ
Rachel asked, โAre all men like this, expecting double standards, like they can do whatever they want but wonโt allow their partner to do the same?โ
โI donโt know about others, but Iโm not like that,โ Tyler replied. He glanced over the table. There was only plain water. Probably unsatisfied, he got up and grabbed a drink from the nearby fridge. Turning his head politely, he asked Rachel, โWant one?โ
โSure.โ
He came back holding two bottles and handed one to her.
Rachel looked at him curiously. โSo what are you like then?โ
Tyler raised an eyebrow and glanced at her. โDo you really want to know?โ
โYeah.โ
She was genuinely curious about how someone like Tyler, who always gave off this wild, untamable vibe, approached relationships.
He opened the bottle, but instead of drinking from it directly, he poured the drink into a glass elegantly.
โWhen Iโm in love, I only love one person. I wonโt split my attention. If one day she falls for someone else, she can tell me. Iโll let her go. But betrayal? That I wonโt tolerate.โ
Rachel liked that perspective. Actually, she liked it a lot. She was like that too.
If she liked someone, she gave it her all. If the relationship ended, she wouldnโt cling or beg.
But someone like William, who was still with her in body but not in heart, felt insulting to be with. She wasnโt someone who couldnโt take a loss.
At that moment, she felt like sheโd found someone who understood.
She raised her glass to Tyler. โDidnโt expect you to be the devoted type.โ
Tyler lifted his own glass and lightly tapped it against hers, producing a crisp clink.
His dark eyes swept over her with an unreadable look.
โDo I really look like a player to you?โ
โUhh, not that much. Just a little bit.โ Rachel hunched and her voice got increasingly softer.
Tyler smiled roguishly. โWhat do you mean by not that much? You clearly have a bias against me.โ
โNope,โ Rachel immediately denied. She wouldnโt ever admit it.
Tyler didnโt argue. Instead, he merely said, โYouโll find out eventually.โ
โFind out what?โ
Before Rachel could even begin to unpack that cryptic sentence, Tyler had already moved on to the next topic.
โThe mediaโs been speculating lately that thereโs tension between our company and Lewis Enterprise. I discussed it with William the other day.
โWeโre organizing a teamโbuilding event the day after tomorrow. Itโs to ease suspicion from the media and help the project move forward more smoothly.โ
