Chapter 134

Williamโ€™s brows, which had just relaxed, tightened all over again. He didnโ€™t quite get it.

โ€œDo you really have to quit? Is Samantha that unbearable?โ€

Rachel couldnโ€™t help but scoff on the inside. Even now, after everything, Samantha was still the only thing on his mind. It was as if no matter what she did, it all came down to her not being able to tolerate Samantha.

If he actually stopped to think about it, heโ€™d realize it had nothing to do with Samantha.

It wasnโ€™t Samantha she cared about. It was his attitude.

There was no point bringing it up now. It was far too late for that.

Rachelโ€™s face was emotionless. โ€œThis has nothing to do with her.โ€

โ€œThen what? Are you planning to join LS Enterprise after the team-building event?โ€

For whatever reason, William just wouldnโ€™t let it go.

Rachelโ€™s patience had run thin. โ€œMr. Lewis, nowโ€™s not the time to interrogate me. What you should be considering is whether or not to sign my resignation letter. Thatโ€™s the real issue here.โ€

William rubbed his temples in frustration. โ€œDo you really have to be this dramatic? Have you even thought about what the rest of the company will say once you leave? Rachel, canโ€™t you just wait until Iโ€™ve fully secured my position before bringing this up?โ€

There were things Rachel didnโ€™t want to say too directly.

It was like watching someone battle depression alone. At first, when they were fighting it, no one noticed or bothered to reach out. Nobody even cared. Right after they gave up, someone finally offered to help. By then, it was already too late.

Rachel sighed calmly. โ€œIโ€™m tired. I need a break. You know how Iโ€™ve been having trouble breathing the past few weeks. Sometimes, I still feel like I canโ€™t even catch my breath.โ€

At that, William knew he couldnโ€™t keep pushing. โ€œI understand.โ€

He bent forward and retrieved the resignation letter Rachel had submitted earlier out of a drawer. After a short pause, he signed his name on it and tossed it toward her.

โ€œThere. Happy now?โ€

Rachel could tell how displeased he was. His expression made that crystal clear. That didnโ€™t matter anymore. She wasnโ€™t fazed.

With the signed resignation letter in hand, everything between them was officially over.

She smiled at him. โ€œThank you, Mr. Lewis. Iโ€™ll attend the team-building event like you asked. After all, Iโ€™m still Lewis Enterprise CEOโ€™s wife. I wouldnโ€™t want to give people a reason to gossip.โ€

โ€œOh, and one more thing,โ€ William added. โ€œAs the person in charge of this project, you should keep an eye on Samanthaโ€™s health during the event. Didnโ€™t she just recover from a fever? She still seems fragile. You two are in the same department. Donโ€™t give people anything to talk about.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s only a fever. Is Ms. Judd that weak?โ€ Rachel asked, staring at William for a few seconds.

โ€œSheโ€™s thin, you know that. She looks frail, and since she joined the company, people have always speculated that you two donโ€™t get along.โ€

Rachel let out a chuckle. โ€œSo in your eyes, Samantha and I have to be good friends?โ€

Williamโ€™s dark blue eyes bore into her.

Right then, the office door swung open.

โ€œMr. Lewis, the team from LS Enterprise is here for the event briefing. Theyโ€™re waiting in the conference room.โ€

โ€œI see. Iโ€™ll be right there.โ€ William pulled himself together. He walked over to Rachel with a conflicted expression. โ€œRachel, you know what Iโ€™ve been through.

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t be where I am today without you. You gave everything to help me get here, didnโ€™t you? If I lose this position, all the effort you put in would go to waste. This is all part of what we built together.โ€

How could Rachel forget? She and William had clawed their way to the top of this industry. William fought for his career, while she fought for him.
