Chapter 134
Williamโs brows, which had just relaxed, tightened all over again. He didnโt quite get it.
โDo you really have to quit? Is Samantha that unbearable?โ
Rachel couldnโt help but scoff on the inside. Even now, after everything, Samantha was still the only thing on his mind. It was as if no matter what she did, it all came down to her not being able to tolerate Samantha.
If he actually stopped to think about it, heโd realize it had nothing to do with Samantha.
It wasnโt Samantha she cared about. It was his attitude.
There was no point bringing it up now. It was far too late for that.
Rachelโs face was emotionless. โThis has nothing to do with her.โ
โThen what? Are you planning to join LS Enterprise after the team-building event?โ
For whatever reason, William just wouldnโt let it go.
Rachelโs patience had run thin. โMr. Lewis, nowโs not the time to interrogate me. What you should be considering is whether or not to sign my resignation letter. Thatโs the real issue here.โ
William rubbed his temples in frustration. โDo you really have to be this dramatic? Have you even thought about what the rest of the company will say once you leave? Rachel, canโt you just wait until Iโve fully secured my position before bringing this up?โ
There were things Rachel didnโt want to say too directly.
It was like watching someone battle depression alone. At first, when they were fighting it, no one noticed or bothered to reach out. Nobody even cared. Right after they gave up, someone finally offered to help. By then, it was already too late.
Rachel sighed calmly. โIโm tired. I need a break. You know how Iโve been having trouble breathing the past few weeks. Sometimes, I still feel like I canโt even catch my breath.โ
At that, William knew he couldnโt keep pushing. โI understand.โ
He bent forward and retrieved the resignation letter Rachel had submitted earlier out of a drawer. After a short pause, he signed his name on it and tossed it toward her.
โThere. Happy now?โ
Rachel could tell how displeased he was. His expression made that crystal clear. That didnโt matter anymore. She wasnโt fazed.
With the signed resignation letter in hand, everything between them was officially over.
She smiled at him. โThank you, Mr. Lewis. Iโll attend the team-building event like you asked. After all, Iโm still Lewis Enterprise CEOโs wife. I wouldnโt want to give people a reason to gossip.โ
โOh, and one more thing,โ William added. โAs the person in charge of this project, you should keep an eye on Samanthaโs health during the event. Didnโt she just recover from a fever? She still seems fragile. You two are in the same department. Donโt give people anything to talk about.โ
โItโs only a fever. Is Ms. Judd that weak?โ Rachel asked, staring at William for a few seconds.
โSheโs thin, you know that. She looks frail, and since she joined the company, people have always speculated that you two donโt get along.โ
Rachel let out a chuckle. โSo in your eyes, Samantha and I have to be good friends?โ
Williamโs dark blue eyes bore into her.
Right then, the office door swung open.
โMr. Lewis, the team from LS Enterprise is here for the event briefing. Theyโre waiting in the conference room.โ
โI see. Iโll be right there.โ William pulled himself together. He walked over to Rachel with a conflicted expression. โRachel, you know what Iโve been through.
โI wouldnโt be where I am today without you. You gave everything to help me get here, didnโt you? If I lose this position, all the effort you put in would go to waste. This is all part of what we built together.โ
How could Rachel forget? She and William had clawed their way to the top of this industry. William fought for his career, while she fought for him.
