Chapter 149
Tyler turned his head slightly and asked, โWhy were you late today? William said he called you several times but couldnโt reach you.โ
Rachel felt that he was acting like some strict parent questioning a kid who hadnโt come home the night before. She didnโt bother hiding it and just told him the truth.
โI saw a cat get hit by a car on the way here, so I took it to the vet. Luckily, it made it. The vet said if everything goes well it should be able to go home in a few days.โ
โSo, are you planning to adopt it?โ
Tylerโs question made her pause. She actually hadnโt thought that far ahead. โI donโt know yet. Iโll see if anyone else is willing to adopt it. If not, then yeah, Iโll take it home.โ
โYouโre allergic to dust, but not to cat fur?โ Tyler had frowned slightly without either of them realizing it.
She looked at him in a startled manner. โHow do you know Iโm allergic to dust?โ
Even Tyler himself was caught off guard. He hadnโt even realized heโd said it until it was already out of his mouth. But he recovered quickly and came up with an excuse.
โYour mom mentioned it once. She said youโve had that allergy since you were little.โ
โOh wow, sounds like my mom really told you everything.โ
Tyler didnโt deny it. โShe told me a lot. She said you watched way too many teen dramas growing up. One time, you randomly grabbed some boy at school and declared you were gonna marry him.
โAnd when that boy turned you down, you dragged me in front of everyone and said โthis is my future husband, and weโre gonna have ten kids togetherโโโ
Before he could finish, Rachel covered his mouth. Her cheeks and ears turned red with embarrassment. She glared at him. โStop! When did I ever say I wanted you to be my husband and have kids with you?โ
Tyler didnโt try to remove her hand. It was soft, and he didnโt seem to mind the contact. He just lifted his chin slightly, gesturing with his eyes toward the road to remind her that he was driving.
Rachel thought about the time they had raced cars with Howard. For the sake of her own life, she decided to behave. But before pulling her hand away, she warned him.
โDonโt make stuff up again.โ
She finally let go.
Tyler gave her a sideways glance and raised an eyebrow, โYou covered my mouth. That means I was right. You remember it pretty clearly, donโt you?โ
Rachel shot him a glare. โNope. Donโt remember a thing.โ
While they were still talking, the car reached the entrance of the estate. Tylerโs parking skills were smooth and precise. There was none of that cautious, inch-by-inch reversing some people did. He parked perfectly in a single attempt.
Rachel was still staring out the window, dazed, when Tyler gave her a look as if he could read her mind.
โDonโt be envious. Natural talent like this canโt be taught.โ
She snapped out of it, naturally rolling her eyes at his unshakable narcissism. The more he praised himself, the less she wanted to give him the satisfaction.
โI wasnโt admiring your parking.โ
She got out of the car and looked around. She wanted to check out what the estate looked like.
But the moment she glanced ahead, her gaze landed on Samantha and William. William was gently touching Samanthaโs still-flat belly, his eyes full of softness and a kind of affection Rachel had never seen before.
Even as an outsider, she could feel how deeply William was looking forward to the birth of that child.
Well, he could rest easy. She was no longer a threat to his happiness.
He had already lost her, forever.
