Chapter 149

Tyler turned his head slightly and asked, โ€œWhy were you late today? William said he called you several times but couldnโ€™t reach you.โ€

Rachel felt that he was acting like some strict parent questioning a kid who hadnโ€™t come home the night before. She didnโ€™t bother hiding it and just told him the truth.

โ€œI saw a cat get hit by a car on the way here, so I took it to the vet. Luckily, it made it. The vet said if everything goes well it should be able to go home in a few days.โ€

โ€œSo, are you planning to adopt it?โ€

Tylerโ€™s question made her pause. She actually hadnโ€™t thought that far ahead. โ€œI donโ€™t know yet. Iโ€™ll see if anyone else is willing to adopt it. If not, then yeah, Iโ€™ll take it home.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re allergic to dust, but not to cat fur?โ€ Tyler had frowned slightly without either of them realizing it.

She looked at him in a startled manner. โ€œHow do you know Iโ€™m allergic to dust?โ€

Even Tyler himself was caught off guard. He hadnโ€™t even realized heโ€™d said it until it was already out of his mouth. But he recovered quickly and came up with an excuse.

โ€œYour mom mentioned it once. She said youโ€™ve had that allergy since you were little.โ€

โ€œOh wow, sounds like my mom really told you everything.โ€

Tyler didnโ€™t deny it. โ€œShe told me a lot. She said you watched way too many teen dramas growing up. One time, you randomly grabbed some boy at school and declared you were gonna marry him.

โ€œAnd when that boy turned you down, you dragged me in front of everyone and said โ€˜this is my future husband, and weโ€™re gonna have ten kids togetherโ€”โ€™โ€

Before he could finish, Rachel covered his mouth. Her cheeks and ears turned red with embarrassment. She glared at him. โ€œStop! When did I ever say I wanted you to be my husband and have kids with you?โ€

Tyler didnโ€™t try to remove her hand. It was soft, and he didnโ€™t seem to mind the contact. He just lifted his chin slightly, gesturing with his eyes toward the road to remind her that he was driving.

Rachel thought about the time they had raced cars with Howard. For the sake of her own life, she decided to behave. But before pulling her hand away, she warned him.

โ€œDonโ€™t make stuff up again.โ€

She finally let go.

Tyler gave her a sideways glance and raised an eyebrow, โ€œYou covered my mouth. That means I was right. You remember it pretty clearly, donโ€™t you?โ€

Rachel shot him a glare. โ€œNope. Donโ€™t remember a thing.โ€

While they were still talking, the car reached the entrance of the estate. Tylerโ€™s parking skills were smooth and precise. There was none of that cautious, inch-by-inch reversing some people did. He parked perfectly in a single attempt.

Rachel was still staring out the window, dazed, when Tyler gave her a look as if he could read her mind.

โ€œDonโ€™t be envious. Natural talent like this canโ€™t be taught.โ€

She snapped out of it, naturally rolling her eyes at his unshakable narcissism. The more he praised himself, the less she wanted to give him the satisfaction.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t admiring your parking.โ€

She got out of the car and looked around. She wanted to check out what the estate looked like.

But the moment she glanced ahead, her gaze landed on Samantha and William. William was gently touching Samanthaโ€™s still-flat belly, his eyes full of softness and a kind of affection Rachel had never seen before.

Even as an outsider, she could feel how deeply William was looking forward to the birth of that child.

Well, he could rest easy. She was no longer a threat to his happiness.

He had already lost her, forever.
