Chapter 159
โAlright, just take better care of yourself from now on,โ Rachel said.
She knew that going forward, there wasnโt much more she could do for Cecilia.
Cecilia still had no clue.
When it was time to eat, William and Samantha sat together. When Samantha spotted Rachel, she cheerfully waved her over. โRachel! Come sit with us!โ
โItโs fine. Iโll just stay here. Iโm too lazy to move.โ
Samantha looked a little disappointed but nodded politely, โOkay then.โ
Rachel sat with Cecilia, and next to them was Tammy, whose face was bright red.
It was obvious sheโd been holding back for a long time before she finally mustered the courage to raise her hand and call out timidly to Tyler.
โMr. Hunt, we still have a seat over here!โ By the time Tammy finished her sentence, her cheeks were as red as a tomato. Tyler finally looked in their direction, scanning the area before walking toward her.
The female coworkers at the table couldnโt help but squeal.
โOh my God, itโs Mr. Hunt! Heโs actually sitting at our table. No way. Oh my gosh, Mr. Hunt is eating at the same table as me!โ
โI have to document this sacred moment with my phone.โ
Some bold ones had already whipped out their phones and opened their camera apps.
The moment Tyler sat down, the entire tableโs vibe changed.
Rachel felt a sudden chill down her spine, and she instinctively inched closer to Cecilia.
Tyler turned his head slightly, glanced at her, and raised his brows.
โWhat? Do I have some kind of plague? Why are you scooting away from me?โ he asked in his usual husky voice.
He was just loud enough to be overheard.
Everyone at the table turned to look at Tyler and Rachel with curious eyes. Gossip was practically the companyโs second language, especially when it involved Tyler.
Rachelโs face turned bright red under the attention. She turned to Tyler, mortified, and whispered urgently, โCan you not say stuff like that out loud?โ
Tyler looked genuinely confused. โWas that loud? Or are you just feeling guilty?โ
Rachelโs cheeks burned. โWhy would I feel guilty? Stop twisting things!โ
Tyler responded like he was giving a lecture. โOur companies are business partners. And as partners, communication is perfectly normal. You should study the phrase โa clear conscience fears no rumorโ.โ
โYouโre being ridiculous. People are bound to assume something even if thereโs nothing,โ Rachel replied with a frown.
He just shrugged nonchalantly. โIt doesnโt matter.โ
Meanwhile, a few people nearby were whispering among themselves.
โI seriously canโt tell if Mr. Hunt is into Rachel or Tammy.โ
โI think itโs Tammy. Didnโt he come over right after she called him?โ
โCan you not ship people randomly? If Mr. Lewis sees this, thereโll be a huge misunderstanding.โ
Rachel could hear all of it loud and clear. She lowered her head slightly and whispered to Tyler, โSee? Anyone whoโs even remotely connected to you becomes a target.โ
Even Tammy, who was usually low-key and stayed out of everything, had been dragged into this mess.
Tyler was struggling to hear her through the surrounding chatter. Everyone was talking at once, and all he could see was Rachelโs mouth moving nonstop.
Tyler, not exactly known for his patience, suddenly leaned in and raised his voice, โWhat did you just say?โ
โHmm?โ Caught off guard, Rachel turned her head at the same time. Her lips accidentally brushed against Tylerโs cheek.
They both froze instantly.
Rachelโs first thought was, โDid anyone see that?โ
She glanced around in a panic, and to her relief, no one seemed to notice. She quietly let out a sigh.
โThank goodness no one saw that.โ
What she didnโt notice, though, was a pair of burning eyes filled with jealousy that had caught the whole thing. Tyler, on the other hand, looked completely calm. In fact, he looked at Rachel like heโd finally confirmed something.
โI knew it. Youโve got ulterior motives.โ
Rachel nearly rolled her eyes. โI donโt have any inappropriate intentions toward you, Mr. Hunt. Donโt flatter yourself.โ
