Tylerโs eyes darkened. He looked like the devil. โYou should know I donโt like wasting words. Go back to the office and submit your resignation.โ
Timโs eyes widened in panic. โMr. Hunt, canโt you give me just one more chance? I really had no choice. My child has leukemia. Heโs only three years old. I canโt just give up on him. The medical bills are overwhelming, and I canโt afford them anymore. Please, Iโve worked for you for so many years. Just this once, Iโm begging you.โ
Tylerโs tone remained resolute. โIf youโve been with me that long, you should know I never change my mind once Iโve made a decision.โ
Rachel didnโt feel it was her place to interfere with how Tyler handled his own company affairs. From her perspective, she mightโve taken Timโs situation into consideration, but Tyler clearly wasnโt someone who showed mercy easily.
Tim looked completely crushed. It was as if his whole world had collapsed.
โMr. Hunt, I swear I didnโt mean to do it. I was desperate. What else could I do? Should I just let my kid die? If there was any other way, I wouldnโt have done this.โ
Tyler turned his face away. He didnโt even want to hear another word. โOnce Iโve gotten to the bottom of this, Iโll come back and deal with you. I wonโt bother tallying up how many kickbacks youโve taken over the years. All you need to do now is resign.โ
The weight of Tylerโs words was suffocating. Even Rachel could feel that Tim had no hope left. There was no point in him staying any longer.
She turned to him and said, โIf you ask me, you should just leave. When you chose to do this, you shouldโve known it would catch up with you sooner or later.โ
Timโs eyes filled with tears. He wiped at them clumsily. โMs. Lloyd, if I had any other choice, I wouldnโt have done it.โ
โIf you made that choice, then you have to accept the consequences. Youโve worked with Mr. Hunt long enough to know exactly what kind of man he is.โ
Rachel was worried that if the assistant kept begging like this, it would only anger Tyler further instead of softening his resolve. Tim sighed heavily. โI understand.โ
Once he was gone, Tyler tugged at the shirt he was wearing with a look of disgust.
โNo wonder Iโve been feeling itchy lately. That guy must have a death wish. How dare he shortchange me on my personal items."
He retrieved his phone and immediately called Yale, his chief aide. Tim was just responsible for day-to-day affairs. Yale usually managed everything else but had been tied up with other work recently and hadnโt been around.
โMr. Hunt, what can I do for you?โ Yale asked respectfully.
โLook into the receipts for my personal expenses like clothes and daily items. Tim has been skimming from me. Also, find out if his kid really is sick.โ
โYes, sir.โ
โHire a new personal assistant, and get someone to send over a proper change of clothes.โ
โYes, sir.โ
After issuing his orders, Tyler hung up the phone.
Chapter 208
Rachel glanced at the shirt Tyler was wearing. โActually, that shirtโs not bad. Sure, itโs not on par with your usual ones, but at least itโs made of real cotton.โ
Tyler frowned and shot her a sidelong glance. โYou think Iโm someone who settles for mediocrity?โ
โWell, this is an unusual situation. Your assistantโs already busy, and now you want him to send you a whole new outfitโฆโ Rachel trailed off mid-sentence, realizing she mightโve said too much.
