Chapter 244

Tylerโ€™s expression visibly darkened at her words. โ€œThat compliment was a bit over the top. Go learn how to act from William and come back.โ€

Rachelโ€™s smile froze.

It felt like someone had just dumped a bucket of cold water over her head. Was her performance really that exaggerated? She thought sheโ€™d actually been pretty sincere.

Forget it. Tyler clearly didnโ€™t respond to flattery. Maybe it was better to just get to the chase.

โ€œMr. Hunt, thereโ€™s something Iโ€™d like to discuss with you.โ€

Tyler leaned back in his chair, his legs crossed. He rested his elbow on the table, propping his chin on his hand. His narrowed eyes glinted.

โ€œSo youโ€™re finally going to show your hand?โ€

Rachelโ€™s heart skipped a beat. โ€œYou knew already?โ€

Tyler glanced at her. Her pupils contracted slightly, a misty sheen in her eyes. She looked vulnerable yet alluring. She probably didnโ€™t even realize that sometimes, just a single look from her could be so tempting.

He cleared his throat. His deep voice was like a rumble.

โ€œI told you earlier. Your little tricks are see-through to me.โ€

The words โ€˜see-throughโ€˜ made Rachel suddenly recall how Tyler had once glanced at her and immediately guessed her clothing size, right down to her underwear! The man was terrifying.

She suddenly realized all her schemes had been nothing more than a comedy show in his eyes.

He stood there like some omniscient god watching her flail about for his amusement. The humiliation burned through her.

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around her fork, and the smile on her face completely vanished.

โ€œIf you knew, why didnโ€™t you say anything earlier? You just sat there and watched me make a fool of myself. Was that fun for you?โ€

Tyler pressed his fingers to his brow. His tone turned cold. โ€œRachel, donโ€™t take your anger out on me. Youโ€™re the one asking for a favor. Act like it.โ€

His words hit her like a slap.

It was a clear warning not to act entitled.

The resentment in Rachelโ€™s heart was immediately doused. Her reason snapped back into place.

He was right. She had no right to throw a tantrum in front of him. He wasnโ€™t her boyfriend and not even really a friend. Even if he was, she had no right to demand anything.

Rachel took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. โ€œSorry. I let my emotions get the better ofโ€ฆโ€

Tyler didnโ€™t say anything. He just stood up and walked toward the kitchen.

Rachelโ€™s heart leapt. She wondered if he was upset. She suddenly felt like sheโ€™d really screwed up. If Tyler got mad now, her entire plan would fall apart.

She rubbed her brows, intensely stressed. What was she supposed to do now? If she couldnโ€™t get his help, she was done for. Things were already spiraling out of control.

Chapter 244

She didnโ€™t know who else to go to.

Her phone lit up with a message from Cecilia.

[Howโ€™s it going on your end?]

Desperate, Rachel proceeded to tell Cecilia her plan, everything except for her intention to leave Yurella City.

Cecilia responded with a sweating emoji.

[Not to scare you or anything, but Tyler is seriously hard to deal with. Like, combine ten stubborn men together and you still wouldnโ€™t match him.]

[Yeah, I know. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m asking you for help.]

Cecilia, being the loyal friend she was, didnโ€™t hesitate.

[Hold on, let me think.]

Rachel waited a few seconds before another message popped up.

[Look, reasoning with Tyler probably wonโ€™t work. You either lay it all out for him clearly or strike a deal. Since youโ€™ve already quit your job, maybe you can negotiate your way into his company.]

Rachel nearly smacked herself on the forehead.

She was clearly panicking too much. Asking Cecilia hadnโ€™t helped at all. She might as well just figure it out herself.
