Chapter 258

โ€œThe lady asked me respectfully to let you know that sheโ€™d left. She also told you to drive safely on your way home,โ€ the waiter replied.

Williamโ€™s eyes turned dim. It looked like he was processing something. Then, without another word, he turned and walked straight out of the restaurant.

Rachel had just gotten into a cab. After giving the driver the address, she quickly texted Cecilia and asked her to help cover for her a little.

Cecilia still sounded concerned.

โ€œRachel, I think this is too risky. What if someone finds out? And youโ€™re spending every night under the same roof as Mr. Huntโ€ฆโ€ She didnโ€™t finish the rest of the sentence. She figured Rachel would get the message without her spelling it out.

Rachel didnโ€™t feel worried. She rolled down the car window slightly to let the night air clear her head as she typed a reply.

[Remember what I told you earlier? I did all that and he still didnโ€™t react. I think itโ€™s safe enough.]

Besides, for some reason, she just didnโ€™t believe Tyler was the type to take advantage of someone. He wasnโ€™t the kind of guy whoโ€™d accept anything worthless.

Of course, she didnโ€™t consider herself worthless.

Cecilia, seeing that Rachel seemed confident and in control, didnโ€™t press the matter further. She knew Rachel was someone who always understood boundaries.

[Alright, just be careful.]

Rachel tucked her phone away and suddenly remembered Tylerโ€™s dog, Ray.

She had promised to bring it something to eat earlier. People always said the way to a manโ€™s heart was through his stomach. Maybe the same applied to dogs.

โ€œCan you stop up ahead for just a bit? Iโ€™ll only take a few minutes,โ€ Rachel said to the driver.

โ€œCan you stop up ahead for just a bit?โ€

The driver didnโ€™t refuse, but reminded her, โ€œJust be quick, okay? Iโ€™ve got other rides lined up.โ€

โ€œThank you.โ€

Rachel got out quickly and walked into the pet store. She asked for recommendations on dog treats.

Once she arrived in front of Tylerโ€™s apartment, she stepped out of the car and immediately shivered.

Tylerโ€™s place was well-hidden. It was great for dodging media attention, but it still felt a little too secluded. The area was pitch-black. There were no streetlights and hardly any passing cars.

It felt eerily quiet.

She hadnโ€™t noticed it in the daytime, but now, under the cover of night, it felt creepy.

What if she had to sneak out after putting Tyler to sleep? Sheโ€™d have to call a ride in the dead of night. It wasnโ€™t exactly safe.

But she couldnโ€™t sleep over at Tylerโ€™s either. If William found out she hadnโ€™t come home, heโ€™d be full of questions.

Rachel paid the driver and approached the door. She lifted her hand to knock.

Something felt off. She glanced behind her. There was no one.

She retrieved her phone and typed a message just in case. As soon as she slid the phone back into her pocket, the door creaked open.

There was no sound of footsteps.

Rachel sucked in a breath. The stillness of it all made her skin crawl. Her spine went stiff.

But as the door opened, Ray trotted out.

She gasped and let out a shaky sigh of relief.

Bending down slightly, she patted Rayโ€™s head.

Fortunately, he had seen her quite a few times by now. He didnโ€™t bark or growl like the first few times.

โ€œWhereโ€™s your owner?โ€ she asked gently.

Ray whined and glanced up the stairs a couple of times.

Rachel caught on. He was saying Tyler was upstairs.

She opened the bag and showed it to Ray. โ€œLook, I passed by a pet store and got you some treats. Iโ€™m not sure if youโ€™ll like them, though.โ€

The dog sniffed the air and began wagging its tail enthusiastically.

Rachel smiled. โ€œBut I have to ask your owner if you can have them,โ€ she said, holding the bag and heading upstairs with Ray trotting close behind.

She knocked gently on Tylerโ€™s door.

โ€œMr. Hunt?โ€

โ€œCome in.โ€

Rachel pushed the door open and stepped in. She explained that sheโ€™d stopped by the pet store and picked up some treats for Ray.

โ€œCan he have them?โ€ she asked.

Tyler glanced at the bag. โ€œShould be fine. If he dies from it, thatโ€™s on him.โ€

Ray let out two dramatic whines.
