Chapter 272

Samantha soon realized something.

โ€œIf Rachel ended up with Mr. Hunt, and word gets outโ€ฆ what should we do?โ€

What Samantha brought up was precisely what William was worried about. It had been a thorn in his chest all this time. It was also why he had been trying to stop Rachel from being with Tyler.

He couldnโ€™t afford to be embarrassed this wayโ€”the Lewis family couldnโ€™t afford to be embarrassed this way!

After leaving the police station, William and Samantha got in the car. William couldnโ€™t hold himself back from calling Rachel.

[You went to Mr. Huntโ€™s house today?]

He couldnโ€™t possibly tell Rachel that Samantha had informed him of seeing her heading to Tylerโ€™s house, which made him suspect that they were alone there. What made things worse was that they eventually found Yvette instead of Rachel.

William could only text back a vague reply. [I had something to ask Tyler and ended up seeing Yvette there. Are they really an item?]

Rachel texted back. [Iโ€™m at Ceciliaโ€™s. We can talk later.]

Before William could reply to her, she sent another text. [Iโ€™m not sure. Youโ€™ll have to ask Yvette for the details.]

Rachel made sure not to get herself involved in this mess.

William didnโ€™t pursue the matter further. [Are you not coming back tonight?]

[I need to help Cecilia tidy things up here and wonโ€™t be home tonight. Didnโ€™t I already tell you that?]

Her sudden question bewildered William.

William was rendered speechless; he could only text her back to tell her to rest early.

The next day, Rachel hailed a taxi and rushed back home first thing in the morning. Today was the day her motherโ€™s tombstone was to be moved back to the Lloyd family cemetery.

Her mother was finally going to be home!

It was her motherโ€™s wish to be close to her father after passing, and to be buried with him after they were both gone.

Who knew an accident would happen, causing her grandfather to forbid her mother to be buried in their family cemetery?

It may be something minor to others, but it had been a thorn in Rachelโ€™s chest for a long time.

Rachel didnโ€™t tell Tyler that she was leaving. Since he had a sleep disorder, she figured it was better to let him sleep in. She also noticed that Rayโ€™s food bowl was empty, so she filled it up before leaving.

It was tough calling for a taxi here, but she eventually managed to get one.

She had to go home for a change of clothes, as her current outfit was too bright and colorful. Wearing something more muted and in a darker shade was more appropriate.

When Tyler woke up, he saw his dog on his bed, staring at him with big, bright eyes.

He patted Rayโ€™s head and sat up. Ray suddenly whimpered, which made Tyler subconsciously look in the direction of the door.

โ€œHas she left?โ€

In response to Tylerโ€™s question, Ray barked twice.

Tyler got changed and opened the door to the room next door. The sheets were folded neatly and placed at the foot of the bed. She even tidied up the sink counter in the washroom; it looked clean, as if no one had stayed the night.

He brushed a finger over his brow and scoffed, โ€œSheโ€™s a clean freak herself.โ€

Pot calling the kettle blackโ€ฆ

Tyler headed downstairs to prepare a simple breakfast for himself. He noticed that Rayโ€™s food bowl was filled to the brim, together with Rayโ€™s favorite snacks.

Ray wagged his tail as he followed Tyler, who rubbed his head affectionately.

โ€œNo wonder you like her so much.โ€

Ray wagged his tail even harder.

As Tyler walked into the kitchen, he received a call from Yale.

โ€œMr. Hunt, after William Lewis returned home last night, he immediately got someone to track down Ms. Lloydโ€™s whereabouts these few days. Heโ€™s probably getting suspicious of her.โ€
