Her Exit 296

Listen to this chapter:

Jim quickly stepped forward. โ€œDoctor, howโ€™s my daughter?โ€

The doctor let out a long sigh. โ€œSheโ€™s out of danger for now, but sheโ€™s still unconscious. We canโ€™t say when sheโ€™ll wake up. She hit her head hard, and it caused intracranial bleeding. If she hadnโ€™t been brought in so quickly, she probably wouldnโ€™t have made it.โ€

Jimโ€™s legs buckled just hearing that. He stumbled back two steps, only to be caught by Tyler from behind.

โ€œJim.โ€

Jim waved his trembling hand. โ€œIโ€™m fine. As long as sheโ€™s still alive, thatโ€™s all that matters.โ€

Standing off to the side, Yvette clenched her fists tightly when she heard Rachel was still alive.

Why was Rachel so lucky? People said that getting hit in the head was fatal, but Rachel was still breathing. Why couldnโ€™t she just die? That wouldโ€™ve solved everything.

Compared to everyone else, Tyler remained far calmer.

โ€œDoctor, is there any indication of when she might regain consciousness?โ€ he asked. โ€œBased on typical cases, that is.โ€

The doctor shook his head grimly. โ€œItโ€™s hard to say. In most cases, if they wake up, itโ€™s within twenty-four hours. But if it goes beyond that, then itโ€™s up to fate.โ€

Jimโ€™s hands were shaking uncontrollably. โ€œDโ€“Doctor, are you saying that if my daughter doesnโ€™t wake up, she could end up in a coma permanently?โ€

โ€œNot necessarily. If she has a strong will to live, she may wake up.โ€

Jim nearly lost his footing again. Sasha rushed over to support him.

โ€œJim, donโ€™t worry too much. Rachel has always been blessed. Her momโ€™s watching over her from above. You need to take care of yourself too.โ€

With Sashaโ€™s help, Jim sat back down in a chair.

The nurses wheeled Rachel out of the operating room and into a ward, the whole group following.

Cassandra walked up, glanced at Jim and Sasha, and said, โ€œSince everything is settled here, thereโ€™s really no point in so many people crowding around. Iโ€™ll head back now.โ€

Jim reacted as though he hadnโ€™t heard her.

Sasha, on the other hand, smiled warmly and walked over. โ€œGo ahead, weโ€™ve got things handled here. You should go get some rest.โ€

Cassandra hesitated, maybe realizing how bad it looked to just walk out, so she found herself a convenient excuse. โ€œExactly, Rachelโ€™s still unconscious. Thereโ€™s not much we can do just sitting here. Better to save our strength. Call me if anything happens.โ€

With that, she grabbed her purse and left without looking back.

Once she was gone, Jim pointed in the direction she left and cursed under his breath. โ€œCassandra is unbelievable! Even William left at a time like this! Iโ€™m absolutely furious.โ€

Sasha waved and tried to calm him down. โ€œOh, come on. Whatโ€™s the point of being mad now? We were the ones who aimed too high, marrying into the Lewis family. You expect them to treat Rachel like sheโ€™s one of their own?โ€

Jim considered that, and he felt less angry.

He shook his head and sighed. โ€œWith Rachel like this, we clearly canโ€™t rely on the Lewis family. Find two caretakers to take shifts looking after her. And donโ€™t tell Gerald about any of this. With his current health, he canโ€™t take another shock.โ€

Sasha was irritated by the list of tasks. โ€œYeah, yeah, I got it. Nothing but problems.โ€

She got up and moved to one side to arrange for the caretakers.

Jim turned to Tyler. โ€œTyler, Rachelโ€™s no longer in danger now. If you have other things to take care of, go ahead.โ€

Tyler didnโ€™t insist on staying. After all, he didnโ€™t have a place in this family. He glanced at Rachel one last time before standing.

โ€œIf anything happens, donโ€™t hesitate to call me,โ€ he said.

Jim nodded. His impression of Tyler improved even more. โ€œThanks again, Tyler.โ€ Then he turned to Yvette. โ€œYvette, walk Mr. Hunt out.โ€

โ€œSure!โ€ Yvette replied quickly. She was practically glowing with excitement.

Tyler was about to lift his hand to decline, but Sasha cut him off.

โ€œTyler, consider it a gesture of thanks. If you wonโ€™t let us treat you to a meal, at least let us see you off properly.โ€ She said it so tactfully, Tyler couldnโ€™t refuse.

โ€œSorry for the trouble, Yvette,โ€ he said.

Yvette beamed and walked out with him. She trailed beside him with a girlish charm in her voice when she spoke.

โ€œTyler, would it be okay if I dropped by your house tomorrow?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve got work tomorrow,โ€ Tyler replied indifferently while quickening his pace.

Yvette hurried to keep up.

โ€œTyler, wonโ€™t you wait up?โ€ she called out sweetly.

He suddenly stopped and turned slightly to give her a cold glance.

โ€œYvette, this is far enough.โ€

Yvette wasnโ€™t about to let the opportunity slip by. She immediately came up with an excuse. โ€œI was about to head home too. Could you give me a ride?โ€

Tylerโ€™s eyes narrowed. The coldness in his tone sent chills down her spine.

โ€œIโ€™m not headed in your direction.โ€

After being turned down over and over, Yvette was starting to feel defeated. But she reminded herself that if she could just marry Tyler, her life would completely change. Sheโ€™d finally be free of Rachelโ€™s shadow forever.

So she put on her sweetest voice and grabbed the hem of his coat before giving it a playful tug.

โ€œTyler, even if you donโ€™t want me to visit, you can at least give me a ride, right? Weโ€™re not strangers anymore. If you just gave me a chance, youโ€™d see all the good things about me.โ€

Tyler looked her up and down. โ€œIโ€™m not interested,โ€ he said flatly.

Yvette froze, and her smile vanished. She couldnโ€™t even fake it anymore. โ€œWhat do you mean by that?โ€
