Chapter 357

Samantha told Cassandra that she had seen Rachel.

Cassandraโ€™s pupils contracted, and her eyes filled with fear. Even her voice shook. โ€œYou mean Rachel is still alive? Didnโ€™t she disappear off the face of the earth five years ago? Sheโ€™s been gone for so long. For all we know, she might already be dead.โ€

Samantha had thought through it more carefully just moments ago. โ€œMother, think about it. If Rachel wasnโ€™t the one who reported it, why would William suddenly get taken into the station over that five-year-old case? Right at this critical moment, too. Whatโ€™s going to happen to the company now that heโ€™s gone? Who else but Rachel could have pulled this off?โ€

Cassandra immediately panicked too. Her earlier arrogance vanished without a trace. โ€œThen what do we do? Rachel must know what William did with her divorce agreement back then. He even spread rumors about her running off with another man. Thereโ€™s no way sheโ€™s going to let this go now.โ€

Seeing Cassandra spiral into a panic, Samantha rolled her eyes. She stepped forward to calm her down.

โ€œMother, Rachel isnโ€™t the type to hold grudges. If she really wanted revenge, she wouldnโ€™t have waited until now. But right now, we need to focus on getting William out. You know the kind of place a police station is. He wonโ€™t last long in there. I already spoke to Gerald, but he said he can only go to Tyler and ask him for help.โ€

Tyler was a taboo topic in the Lewis family, but one they had no choice but to deal with. If the family ever truly ran into trouble, Tyler was the only one who could save them.

Samantha thought for a moment and then asked Cassandra, โ€œMother, do you know where Tyler lives?โ€

Cassandra immediately looked at her, alarmed. โ€œWhat are you planning to do?โ€

Samantha chuckled. โ€œI want to talk to Tyler myself. I think the reason he hasnโ€™t made a move is because he doesnโ€™t want to. If he really wanted to get William out, it would be a piece of cake for someone like him.โ€

Cassandra agreed with that logic. โ€œYouโ€™re right. With Tylerโ€™s influence, itโ€™s not like he needs time to pull some strings. If heโ€™s hesitating, then it means heโ€™s choosing not to help.โ€

But then she frowned again. She was clearly still concerned. โ€œLet me make one thing clear, though. Tyler isnโ€™t someone you can just convince with a few sweet words. Heโ€™s not easy.โ€

โ€œNo matter what, I have to try. Itโ€™s for Williamโ€™s sake.โ€

Hearing that, Cassandra finally looked a little more approving. She patted the back of Samanthaโ€™s hand. โ€œThatโ€™s more like it. Samantha, you know better than anyone that our familyโ€™s daughter-in-law canโ€™t be outdone by Rachel. Back then, even though Rachel couldnโ€™t have children and was deafโ€”well, fake deafโ€”but in other ways, she still held her own. You canโ€™t let her outshine you. Iโ€™m sure you hate how people keep comparing you to her.โ€

Samantha felt a surge of fury deep inside, but she couldnโ€™t show it in front of Cassandra. She kept her expression composed and smiled politely. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mother. Iโ€™ll do my best to be the perfect daughter-in-law.โ€

Cassandraโ€™s expression relaxed. โ€œIโ€™ll send you Tylerโ€™s address later. Whether it works or not, itโ€™s all on you now.โ€

โ€œYes, Mother.โ€

Once Cassandra left, Samanthaโ€™s smile froze on her face. She pursed her lips, and the skin around her mouth began to tremble slightly.

Bang!

She slammed the door shut and stood in front of the coffee table for a moment. She then suddenly swung her arm and swept everything on the table to the ground with a crash.
