Chapter 357
Samantha told Cassandra that she had seen Rachel.
Cassandraโs pupils contracted, and her eyes filled with fear. Even her voice shook. โYou mean Rachel is still alive? Didnโt she disappear off the face of the earth five years ago? Sheโs been gone for so long. For all we know, she might already be dead.โ
Samantha had thought through it more carefully just moments ago. โMother, think about it. If Rachel wasnโt the one who reported it, why would William suddenly get taken into the station over that five-year-old case? Right at this critical moment, too. Whatโs going to happen to the company now that heโs gone? Who else but Rachel could have pulled this off?โ
Cassandra immediately panicked too. Her earlier arrogance vanished without a trace. โThen what do we do? Rachel must know what William did with her divorce agreement back then. He even spread rumors about her running off with another man. Thereโs no way sheโs going to let this go now.โ
Seeing Cassandra spiral into a panic, Samantha rolled her eyes. She stepped forward to calm her down.
โMother, Rachel isnโt the type to hold grudges. If she really wanted revenge, she wouldnโt have waited until now. But right now, we need to focus on getting William out. You know the kind of place a police station is. He wonโt last long in there. I already spoke to Gerald, but he said he can only go to Tyler and ask him for help.โ
Tyler was a taboo topic in the Lewis family, but one they had no choice but to deal with. If the family ever truly ran into trouble, Tyler was the only one who could save them.
Samantha thought for a moment and then asked Cassandra, โMother, do you know where Tyler lives?โ
Cassandra immediately looked at her, alarmed. โWhat are you planning to do?โ
Samantha chuckled. โI want to talk to Tyler myself. I think the reason he hasnโt made a move is because he doesnโt want to. If he really wanted to get William out, it would be a piece of cake for someone like him.โ
Cassandra agreed with that logic. โYouโre right. With Tylerโs influence, itโs not like he needs time to pull some strings. If heโs hesitating, then it means heโs choosing not to help.โ
But then she frowned again. She was clearly still concerned. โLet me make one thing clear, though. Tyler isnโt someone you can just convince with a few sweet words. Heโs not easy.โ
โNo matter what, I have to try. Itโs for Williamโs sake.โ
Hearing that, Cassandra finally looked a little more approving. She patted the back of Samanthaโs hand. โThatโs more like it. Samantha, you know better than anyone that our familyโs daughter-in-law canโt be outdone by Rachel. Back then, even though Rachel couldnโt have children and was deafโwell, fake deafโbut in other ways, she still held her own. You canโt let her outshine you. Iโm sure you hate how people keep comparing you to her.โ
Samantha felt a surge of fury deep inside, but she couldnโt show it in front of Cassandra. She kept her expression composed and smiled politely. โDonโt worry, Mother. Iโll do my best to be the perfect daughter-in-law.โ
Cassandraโs expression relaxed. โIโll send you Tylerโs address later. Whether it works or not, itโs all on you now.โ
โYes, Mother.โ
Once Cassandra left, Samanthaโs smile froze on her face. She pursed her lips, and the skin around her mouth began to tremble slightly.
Bang!
She slammed the door shut and stood in front of the coffee table for a moment. She then suddenly swung her arm and swept everything on the table to the ground with a crash.
