Her Exit 38

Listen to this chapter:

It was terrifying how Tyler seemed to know exactly what Rachel was thinking.

The awkward silence lingered for a moment, but Rachel couldnโ€™t help herself and said anyway, โ€œLast time, that lady had such a great figure. I thought she was amazingโ€“why didnโ€™t you want her?โ€

Tyler shot her a cold glance. โ€œBy your logic, if any woman throws herself at me, should I just take her? Iโ€™m not a trash can.โ€

โ€œI thought she was great,โ€ Rachel blurted out. โ€œIf you didnโ€™t want her, then what kind of woman do you like?โ€

Tyler glanced at her briefly, his tone casually mocking. โ€œSo, now youโ€™re trying to figure out what I like? Do you want to date me?โ€ Rachel quickly looked away. โ€œForget I asked.โ€

The car pulled up in front of Lewis Enterprise, and Rachel gave Tyler a polite thank you. โ€œThanks, Mr. Hunt.โ€

Tyler lazily waved at her as the car drove off, barely missing her feet.

Rachel headed inside and waited for the elevator. While she waited, she scrolled through the headlines, and one caught her attention.

[Howard Zieglerโ€™s brush with deathโ€“drugged, locked in a dark room, and left for deadโ€“Mr. Ziegler narrowly escaped sterilization, with doctors warning that a few minutes later could have cost him his fertility. Whispers now point to William Lewis as the mastermind.]

Rachel clicked the article and realized the description of the drug sounded similar to what Howard had used on her before.

She highly doubted William was behind it. If Samantha had been the one poisoned, however, then maybe he wouldnโ€™t hold back.

But when she thought about it, aside from William, who else in Yurelia City could possibly challenge Howard like that?

Suddenly, Tylerโ€™s face flashed in her mind.

However, Rachel pushed the thought away just as quickly as it crossed her mind.

Tyler and Howard didnโ€™t have any issues with each other. There was no way he would help her.

The elevator doors opened; as Rachel was about to step in, someone tapped her lightly on the shoulder. She turned around to see Samantha, smiling brightly and signing at her.

โ€œRachel, what a coincidence! William and I just got back too!โ€

William noticed the situation and quickly raised his hands to sign, trying to explain. โ€œWe were out meeting with clients. Did you just come from the cemetery?โ€

Rachel kept her face blank and nodded. โ€œYeah, just came back.โ€

The three of them stepped into the elevator, and Rachel pressed the button for her floor.

The atmosphere in the tight space felt unusually heavy. Standing in front of William and Samantha, Rachel could see in the reflection of the elevator buttons that Samantha was subtly holding Williamโ€™s hand.

William, probably afraid Rachel would notice, instinctively tried to pull away.

โ€œStop it,โ€ he muttered.

Samantha pouted and looked at him with her big, sparkling eyeโ€“the kind that made it hard for anyone to say no. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Rachel canโ€™t hear us.โ€

โ€œAlright, behave.โ€ William finally caved. โ€œTomorrow, Iโ€™ll take you shopping. Didnโ€™t you want the dresses Rachel has?โ€ Samantha, satisfied, loosened her grip on his hand. โ€œNow thatโ€™s more like it. I wear nice things to show off to you, after all.โ€

Chapter 37

Rachel pressed a hand to her chest, suddenly finding it heavy. She couldnโ€™t believe how blinded she had been back then, to the point she didnโ€™t even listen to her instincts about William.

At least her hearing was back now, or she mightโ€™ve slapped herself in frustration.

As they stepped out of the elevator, Samantha suddenly pointed at the car outside.

โ€œRachel, I saw you get out of that Bugatti just now. Thatโ€™s a global limited edition. I remember one belongs to Howard, and the other one is Mr. Huntโ€™s.โ€
