If the phrase โ€˜when it rains, it poursโ€™ ever applied to someone, Rachel was living proof. Her brows furrowed tightly. โ€œDid William report him?โ€

โ€œYes. William probably found out your dad has regained consciousness. In his current condition, if he gets investigated and canโ€™t clear himself, theyโ€™ll detain him. That could be the end for him!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m going to confront William right now!โ€

โ€œRachel, calm down! Going to him now wonโ€™t help. William is clearly doing this to retaliate against you.โ€

After all, William had just been hit hard. The company was still in turmoil, and to make matters worse, he had spent a few days in a police station cell. That kind of experience was anything but pleasant.

Rachel was anxious. โ€œWhat should I do?โ€

โ€œDoesnโ€™t William have an uncle? I heard heโ€™s terrified of that man. Maybe look into who this guy is!โ€

Rachelโ€™s eyes lit up. She did vaguely remember hearing about this mysterious uncle who William was very wary of, maybe even someone capable of keeping him in check.

She had already met other members of the Lewis family. Judging by Thomasโ€˜ temperament, there was no way he would help her now. The entire Lewis family probably hated her guts.

Rachel agreed. โ€œOkay, could you also ask around for me?โ€

โ€œOf course. Iโ€™ll call you the moment I hear anything.โ€

Just as she hung up, Yaleโ€™s car rolled up to the hospital entrance. Rachel turned to Tyler. โ€œMr. Hunt, you can go take care of your other business now. Iโ€™ll come by later this evening. Donโ€™t worry.โ€

She added that last part to reassure him she wouldnโ€™t run. He didnโ€™t need to monitor her every step. Besides, if the situation with Jim wasnโ€™t handled properly, leaving now would mean all hell breaking loose.

Tyler opened the car door anyway. โ€œNo worries. I have other things to discuss with your father.โ€

Rachel looked at him curiously. โ€œWhat could you two possibly need to talk about?โ€ She knew Tyler was once close to Melanie, but when had he become chummy with Jim?

Tyler stepped out of the car in his usual relaxed style, with his shirt half-tucked. There was a laid-back quality to him. He glanced at her, eyes full of mischief. โ€œDo you want to know?โ€

Rachel hesitated, brain spinning, trying to figure out if he actually intended to tell her or if this was just another trap. She did want to know. Whatever was going on between Tyler and Jim, it was probably important.

What the hell. Sheโ€™d trust him one last time. She nodded firmly. โ€œYeah.โ€

Tyler smirked, and Rachelโ€™s heart sank. She had a bad feeling about this. A low, teasing chuckle rumbled from his chest. โ€œIf you want to know, trade me one of your secrets, Rachel.โ€

As he brushed past her, he seemed quite pleased with himself. His warm palm patted her gently on the head. Rachel stood frozen, fists clenched, and eyes burning with frustration as she stared at Tylerโ€™s back. She had fallen for it again.

Wham! She slammed the car door shut and stormed after him. When she pushed open the door to the ward, Xavier happened to be coming out next to a nurse with a medical chart in hand.

โ€œMs. Lloyd, good timing. I was just about to update you on your fatherโ€™s condition.โ€ Rachel recalled that Xavier had been familiar with her fatherโ€™s case, but he wasnโ€™t the attending physician. Seeing him with the chart, she couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œDr. Jenkins, whatโ€™s going on?โ€

โ€œOh, there was an earthquake in a neighboring city. Your fatherโ€™s attending doctor was dispatched for emergency relief, so Iโ€™ll be taking over his care for now.โ€
