Chapter 434
Jason couldnโt help but feel secretly delighted.
โDude, youโll definitely thank me after tonight,โ he thought.
One of the women asked, โMr. Denzel, is your friend here today too? Weโre just worried that if someone does manage to solve the puzzle, and the person who set it isnโt around, things might get tricky.โ
โDonโt worry, heโs here,โ Jason replied with a smirk.
Soon, a few people stepped up to give it a try. But after making just a couple of moves, they realized the board remained deadlocked.
The game went on for about half an hour. Everyone who knew how to play, and even those who didnโt but thought they might have a chance, had already taken a turn.
No one else stepped forward.
Jason started to feel a little puzzled. Rachel had looked so serious while studying the board earlier. But now, she hadnโt moved at all. There wasnโt even a single reaction.
โDid I just overestimate her?โ
Then again, it made sense. Even top players online hadnโt been able to solve this. How could she, when she wasnโt even a shatranj expert?
He shouldโve known better than to bring out such a difficult puzzle.
Seeing that no one had stepped forward for several minutes, Jason couldnโt help but ask again, โAnyone else want to give it a try? If not, I suppose weโll just call it a day. No one could solve the puzzle tonight.โ
The crowd below shook their heads.
Jason gave a helpless shrug.
โSorry, dude. I tried.โ
He was about to signal the nearby waiter to pack up the board when a clear female voice suddenly rang out.
โIโll give it a try.โ
The moment Jason heard that voice, a flicker of light returned to his eyes. He couldnโt help but sigh in relief.
He had been waiting for this.
In the crowd, Tylerโs expression remained unreadable. His gaze was fixed on Rachel the entire time.
The second she spoke up and said she would try, the trace of weariness in his eyes vanished entirely.
He had set this shatranj puzzle, and so far, not one person had come close to solving it.
Now, even he was curious. What method would Rachel use to crack it?
Rachel stepped up to the board, essentially making her the eveningโs grand finale. Given who she was, it was no surprise that all eyes instantly turned toward her.
โIsnโt that the Lloyd familyโs eldest daughter?โ
โSheโs Williamโs ex-wife, isnโt she?โ
โI heard it was just recently revealed that sheโs actually the illegitimate daughter of Mr. Lloyd from Lloyd Enterprise.โ
โNo way! An illegitimate daughter?โ
โWhoโd have guessed Mr. Lloyd was such a player in his youth.โ
โWhatโs so surprising? In our circle, wealthy men having affairs and kids outside of wedlock is practically normal.โ
โTrue. Still, I think she has way more class than that Yvette girl they brought back later. She looks so much more like a true Lloyd.โ
โShows how little you know. Yvette was brought in from the countryside. Of course she doesnโt have any poise! The Lloyd family practically built her image from scratch with money.โ
Yvette overheard this and clenched her jaws in anger. She grabbed her skirt so tightly that her fingers turned red and the veins bulged on the back of her hand. Her eyes burned with fury, as if she could scorch Rachel just by glaring.
She was furious that the man she had sent all those years ago hadnโt managed to get rid of Rachel.
She was rightfully part of the family by blood. So what if Rachel was the same? She was just an illegitimate child!
How could Rachel compare to her?
What was wrong with all these people?
Were they blind?
In what way was she inferior to Rachel? Why did everyone insist on comparing them?
Fine! If Rachel wanted the spotlight so badly, Yvette would make sure she got all the spotlight she wanted.
