Chapter 455

Tyler sat back down in his office chair and glanced at the contract. His tone immediately shifted into something authoritative.

โ€œI said,โ€ he began, โ€œIโ€™ll drink it later.โ€

Sheryn had always felt a mix of love and frustration toward Tyler, but when he got serious, even she didnโ€™t dare push him. There was something about him that made her uneasy, something she genuinely feared.

She pouted, clearly feeling wronged, but didnโ€™t dare argue. Instead, she obediently set the thermos in front of Tylerโ€™s desk. As she did, she even patted the lid like she was tucking in a child.

โ€œMake sure you drink it, okay? I spent all morning making this. I went through several chickens, too.โ€

Tyler didnโ€™t even bother looking up.

โ€œMm.โ€

Before leaving, Sheryn shot Rachel a harsh glare. She gave a cold harrumph and walked out, slamming the door behind her.

Rachel knew full well that if Tyler hadnโ€™t been present, that girl probably wouldnโ€™t have left so easily.

Oddly enough, she didnโ€™t really find Sheryn all that annoying. In fact, Sheryn was kind of cute.

Rachel wasnโ€™t sure what was wrong with her.

She had wanted to turn to Tyler and demand to find out who exactly that girl was. However, the way he was sitting there, composed and unreadable, made her hesitate.

She held back.

Once Sheryn was gone, Rachel finally remembered why she had come in the first place.

โ€œI heard about my dadโ€™s situation. Things are fine now. The approval went through, and heโ€™s safe. Dr. Jenkins also told me youโ€™re the one who arranged for his doctor, right?โ€

It suddenly struck Rachel just how different Tyler was from most men.

Many men liked taking credit for what they did, wearing their good deeds like medals, but not Tyler. He was tight-lipped and reserved. He would quietly go out of his way to help someone without ever saying a word.

He just waited for the person to figure it out on their own.

Tyler idly toyed with a little sculpture on his desk, running his fingers over it. His expression remained impassive as he asked calmly, โ€œSo, how do you plan on thanking me?โ€

Rachel had actually thought about that on the way over.

The truth was, she didnโ€™t know how to thank him. Tyler was one of those golden boys who already had everything. It wasnโ€™t like he needed anything from her.

But that didnโ€™t mean she shouldnโ€™t at least try.

She retrieved a small, velvet box from her bag. It was matte black with a sleek finish that screamed quality even before it was opened.

Rachel handed it to him.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t sure what to get, but I passed by a mall and saw this tie. It looked like something that would suit you.โ€

Tyler took the box, opened it, and saw a simple black tie inside.

Rachel had always had a minimalist taste. There was never anything too flashy. Everything about her was simple, elegant, and timeless.

Tylerโ€™s warm fingers brushed along the fabric. The texture was good.

He kept looking at it, so long that Rachel began to second-guess herself. Maybe he didnโ€™t like it? She reached forward to take it back.

โ€œIf you donโ€™t like it, I can exchange it, or you can pick something yourself if you want.โ€

Tyler leaned forward slightly, closing the distance between them.

Startled, Rachel blinked at him. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

โ€œShouldnโ€™t a new tie be tried on first? You do know how to tie one, donโ€™t you?โ€ he asked, a faint glimmer in his dark eyes.

His eyes locked onto her face. Her eyes were shimmering with a misty sheen, like water reflecting moonlight. She looked shy and alluring all at once.

Rachel opened her mouth to say โ€˜yes,โ€˜ but before she could get the word out, Tyler started speaking again.
