Chapter 470

Rachel rubbed Rayโ€™s head.

โ€œIโ€™m fine, donโ€™t worry,โ€ she reassured him. โ€œWeโ€™re just going to the hospital for a quick check. Weโ€™ll be back real soon. Watch the house and donโ€™t let anyone in.โ€

Ray barked twice. Rachel knew he understood what she was saying.

โ€œGood boy. Youโ€™re as smart as your owner.โ€

โ€œAre you comparing Ray with me?โ€ Tyler said huffily.

Rachel pondered for a moment before changing her words and asking, โ€œAre you smarter than Ray?โ€

Tyler pursed his lips, his voice low as he said, โ€œRachel, youโ€™d better watch your words. Whether we can even make it to the hospital depends on what you say from here on.โ€

Rachel tossed Tylerโ€™s words back and forth in her mind, feeling as though something was amiss.

She decided to throw all caution to the wind.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with comparing you to a dog? Itโ€™s a very intelligent creature, and people often claim that dogs take after their owners. Wouldnโ€™t calling Ray stupid be an insult to you, too?โ€

Tylerโ€™s chin lifted proudly. โ€œBut of course. Iโ€™m so smartโ€“if Ray is stupid, he only has himself to blame.โ€

Ray seemed to understand what Tyler was saying as he lifted his head and whimpered at Tyler. He seemed to roll his eyes at Tyler before turning away, refusing to look at the latter.

Seeing that, Rachel burst out laughing.

โ€œSee? Even your dog despises you.โ€

She laughed so gleefully her eyes twinkled like diamonds. Tyler playfully pinched her waist, making her yelp in pain.

โ€œI dare you to laugh some more.โ€

He held her at her waist and helped her toward the door. Rachel quelled her laughter, for fear that Tyler might get back at her.

When they walked past the dining table, Rachel glanced at the food she prepared and remembered that Tyler hadnโ€™t eaten dinner yet.

โ€œDo you want to eat something before we go?โ€

โ€œYou cooked especially for me?โ€ Tyler asked with an arched brow.

Remembering that the reason she cooked for Tyler was because she had something to ask him, Rachel took the chance to claim credit. โ€œBut of course.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine, weโ€™ll come back and heat up the food later.โ€

He had to make sure that she was fine first. Otherwise, he would never spare Wilma.

They rushed to the hospital where Xavier attended to them.

He put on his white robe with a yawn and said sleepily, โ€œGoodness, I just pulled an all-nighter yesterday and survived a full day of consultation visits. I havenโ€™t even recovered from all that, and you had to pull me so rudely out of bed. Even horses need a rest."

Tyler ignored his complaints and pushed Rachel in his direction. โ€œCheck the wound on her back and see if it impacted the bone.โ€

All sleep abandoned Xavier when he saw Rachel. He put on his black-rimmed glasses and said to her, โ€œPlease come in.โ€

He made Rachel sit on the chair and was about to roll up the hem of her shirt when Tyler barked, โ€œWhat are you doing?!โ€

Xavier rolled his eyes at Tyler. โ€œAre you insane? Iโ€™m a doctor. How would I know if thereโ€™s a deeper issue with her wound if I donโ€™t look at it?โ€

Tyler made the decision on Xavierโ€™s behalf. โ€œWrite a note and send her for an X-ray.โ€

Xavier was dumbfounded, but he should have expected it from Tyler.

He stood up and said, โ€œAlright, an X-ray may be good. Canโ€™t tell if itโ€™s a bone issue just by touch.โ€

With that, he handed the referral note to Rachel.

When he brushed past Tyler, he patted the latterโ€™s chest and said in a volume audible only to the two of them, โ€œIsnโ€™t that jealousy of yours getting rather out of hand? If sheโ€™s so precious to you, just strap her to you all day.โ€
