Listen to this chapter:

โ€œIโ€™m not afraid of him, I just donโ€™t want trouble. Arenโ€™t you afraid of being misunderstood, Mr. Hunt?โ€

Rachel started finding a corner to hide in and glanced upstairs.

โ€œIโ€™ll head upstairs to avoid him.โ€

Without waiting for Tylerโ€™s agreement, she made a beeline for the stairs and headed up.

Tyler didnโ€™t stop her, his lips curling into a smile.

โ€œYouโ€™re making it look like weโ€™re having an affair.โ€

Rachel stopped dead in her tracks. He was right.

She had no choice, however. William was already suspicious of their relationship. If he found her at Tylerโ€™s house, it would only deepen his suspicions.

When Tyler walked in, he saw a figure dash into a room and shut the door. It moved too fast and he couldnโ€™t see clearly who it was, but he was certain it was a woman.

Was Tyler in a relationship? So what? What was the point of hiding it?

Tylerโ€™s brows were furrowed, seemingly upset at Williamโ€™s appearance. He bent over and poured himself a cup of coffee.

โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

The anger etched on Williamโ€™s face faded the moment he saw Tylerโ€™s menacing expression. The man was clearly in a more dour mood than he was. He covered his mouth and let out a cough.

โ€œI heard that Howard drugged Rachel, and you were the one who saved her. Why didnโ€™t you send her straight to the hospital?โ€

Tylerโ€™s hand, holding the coffee flask, froze in mid-air. He shot William a cold, incisive look.

โ€œAre you questioning me?โ€

William trembled under Tylerโ€™s gaze, but he had to get to the bottom of the matter.

โ€œRumors are raging, and I have to find out for myself. That night, when Rachel was drugged by Howard, did you twoโ€ฆโ€ Tyler put the flask back on the table, the sound clear and crisp, echoing unfalteringly in the room. All of a sudden, the atmosphere seemed to turn dark and gloomy.

With a raised eyebrow, Tyler blatantly voiced the words William was too embarrassed to say.

โ€œYou want to ask whether I slept with Rachel, or if I took advantage of her, right?โ€

Williamโ€™s silence was an implicit agreement to Tylerโ€™s words.

He hadnโ€™t paid much attention to things between Tyler and Rachel at that time. Everything had happened so quickly, what with Rachel in critical condition and requiring immediate care.

However, Rachel and Tyler had been getting too close for comfort when they didnโ€™t even know each other to begin with.

Tyler pulled out a cigarette from a case, tilted his head, and lit it. The angle of his jawline looked even sharper as he stared coldly at William through the smoke.

Chapter 48

โ€œWilliam, isnโ€™t it better for you to ask Rachel directly about such matters?โ€

Williamโ€™s seemingly calm eyes could barely hide the storm brewing from within. โ€œRachel has her pride and dignity. Sheโ€™ll get angry if I ask her that.โ€

Tyler looked up and let out a low chuckle, โ€œYou already suspect that sheโ€™s having an affair, and now youโ€™re trying to play the role of a dedicated, loving husband? Quit being disgusting.โ€

William gritted his teeth, his lips pursed with irritation. โ€œYou know very well that Rachel is my wife.โ€

Tyler nodded pensively, amused. Yet, the cold aura he exuded commanded attention.

โ€œI hear you. I canโ€™t lay a finger on your wife, but Howard can. You already knew he drugged your wife when he called you to tip you off. Why didnโ€™t you kick up a fuss about that?โ€

His voice turned dark, laced with menacing undertones.

Suddenly, he rose from the couch and approached William. They were of similar build, but his aura dominated Williamโ€™s with ease.

โ€œWilliam Lewis, how the hell did your family raise a wuss like you? A man wanted to bed your wife, but you didnโ€™t dare to stand up to him. Yet here you are, interrogating me? Scram!โ€
