Chapter 481

โ€œOf course thereโ€™s an overtime charge. One grand per hour. Hereโ€™s the OR payment code.โ€

Tyler retrieved a QR payment code from his drawer and placed it on the table.

Rachel was stunned. She hadnโ€™t expected Tyler to still keep the code. She began to feel a little suspicious.

โ€œDonโ€™t tell me you kept this just for me?โ€

Tyler rubbed his chin, as if she had just given him a great idea. โ€œHmmโ€ฆ Now that you mention it, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe I should label it as For Rachel Only.โ€

Rachel shrank back a little. โ€œNo need for that. One hourโ€™s more than enough.โ€

She figured even going to a cafe would be cheaper than staying in Tylerโ€™s study. There was no way it was worth one grand an hour!

Tyler gently tapped her nose with his finger before letting out a soft chuckle. โ€œYouโ€™re way too clever. Do you think I could actually make money off you?โ€

Rachel knew full well that Tyler wasnโ€™t short on cash. Just from all her recent eating sprees at his place, she had probably cost him quite a bit already.

She figured this was probably one of his weird amusements. He had too much money and too much time on his hands. Sometimes that was its own kind of curse.

Still, she had to admit, if anyone had to bear that curse, she wouldnโ€™t mind being the one.

After Rachel walked out, Cecilia curiously came up to her.

โ€œCome on, spill it. What exactly were you two doing in there? You were in there for so long.โ€

Rachel recalled Tylerโ€™s earlier words and let out a sigh. โ€œI almost got scammed. Come on, weโ€™ve only got an hour.โ€

She pulled Cecilia toward Tylerโ€™s study.

As soon as they stepped in, Rachel understood why Tyler had joked about charging one grand an hour.

This wasnโ€™t just a studyโ€“it was heaven on earth.

Although she had been here a while, it was her first time setting foot inside Tylerโ€™s study.

She had always been conscious of the fact that studies were usually a manโ€™s private space. If anything confidential got leaked, sheโ€™d be the one in trouble.

Cecilia took one look around and couldnโ€™t help but gasp.

โ€œOh my goodness! Is this really a study?โ€

Everything inside was done in cool tones, with dim lighting that still managed to feel refined.

The shelves were lined with books and expensive art pieces, all glowing under hidden LED strips like floating geometric installations. It was a loftโ€“style setup; right across from the shelves was a dedicated rack for red wine.

Rachel glanced at some of the labels. None of them came cheap.

Cecilia, who had never seen anything like this before, instinctively reached out to touch one.

However, Rachel quickly stopped her.

โ€œDonโ€™t! If you break one of those bottles, thatโ€™s your entire paycheck for the next few years gone.โ€

Terrified by Rachelโ€™s warning, Cecilia yanked her hand back. โ€œAre they that expensive?โ€

โ€œCome on, do you really think someone like Tyler drinks cheap wine?โ€ Rachel asked frankly.

Cecilia nodded.

โ€œGood point.โ€ She quickly snapped out of it. โ€œWe better get started.โ€

Rachel pulled out a chair and sat down.

Once the two of them started discussing, time flew by. Before they knew it, the hour was nearly up.

Cecilia began packing up. โ€œBy the way, Rachel. Iโ€™m really worried. What if William and the Lewis family find out and come after you?โ€

Rachel took it calmly.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the point of being scared? I canโ€™t run away like I did five years ago. And besides, William and the rest of them? Theyโ€™ve crossed the line. If I keep backing down like before, Iโ€™d just appear weak.โ€

Cecilia sighed. โ€œHonestly, I still think youโ€™d be better off siding with Williamโ€™s uncle. At least then youโ€™d have some protection. Even if William wanted to come after you, heโ€™d probably think twice out of respect for his uncle.โ€
