Chapter 499
Garyโs expression changed the moment he saw Tyler. At first, he looked completely stunned, but once he snapped out of it, he rushed over to greet him.
โMr. Hunt, is it really you? What an honor to have you visit our company! Is there something we can help you with today?โ
โI just happened to stop by. Thought Iโd discuss a potential project with your CEO, Ms. Rachel. But, oh right, sheโs not the CEO yet. Never mind, then.โ
Tylerโs voice trailed off into sarcasm mid-sentence. He then brushed it off like it was nothing.
Rachel watched the whole exchange unfold with wide eyes. Tyler flipped the mood like flipping a switch, turning Gary from hopeful to nervous to disappointed, all in seconds. It was the first time she had ever seen someone manipulate another personโs emotions so precisely.
When Gary realized Tyler was about to leave, he rushed after him in a panic.
โMr. Hunt, please! This is a misunderstanding. We, the shareholders, had already decided that Ms. Rachel would take over the company starting tomorrow. Itโs just that things moved too quickly today, and the announcement hasnโt been made yet.โ
Hearing this, Tyler paused mid-step and glanced sideways at him.
โOh? So youโre saying Rachel wonโt be managing the company until tomorrow?โ
Gary, sharp as ever, immediately picked up on what Tyler meant and changed his tone without missing a beat.
โNo, no, that was just our initial plan. Weโve already asked HR to draft the announcement.โ
Tyler folded his arms and looked Gary up and down. โAm I supposed to wait?โ
โYou all can go ahead and start talking. Iโll speed things up right now.โ
While Gary spoke, he turned and barked at Sharon, who was still standing next to Yvette.
โSharon! What are you standing around for? Get Mr. Hunt some coffee, the best we have! And youโyouโre new, right? Hurry up and show Mr. Hunt to the meeting room.โ
Cecilia was caught off guard for a moment. She quickly nodded.
โYes, of course!โ
She walked over to Tyler and respectfully said, โMr. Hunt, this way, please.โ
As Tyler followed Cecilia and passed by Rachel, he narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze dark and unreadable.
Then, with a crooked, rather mischievous smile, he leaned in and said playfully, โMs. Rachel, arenโt you coming? My time is very valuable, you know.โ
It was only then that Rachel snapped out of her daze.
โAlright.โ
The group headed off to the conference room.
Yvette, meanwhile, stood frozen in place. Everything that had just happened felt like a dream. She stared blankly in the direction Rachel had gone.
โWhat just happened?โ
No one paid her any attention.
Yvette could only turn to Gary in confusion. โMr. Summers, didnโt you just say she wasnโt suitable to take over the company right now? Besides, all she did was bring in one project. Thatโs hardly enough reason to hand her the company!โ
Gary didnโt even try to hide his disdain now.
โMs. Yvette, think carefully. Youโve been with the company for years. What major clients have you ever brought in? And donโt play dumb. You heard what Mr. Hunt said, didnโt you? Isnโt it obvious? Heโs practically saying that if we let Rachel take over right now, heโll consider working with us.โ
Yvette pouted, refusing to back down. โBut you know full well she didnโt get that on her own! Sheโs always throwing herself at men. If someone like her runs the company, arenโt you afraid itโll collapse?โ
Gary snorted coldly. โYou were running things before, and look where that got us. Want me to pull up your performance reports? See just how badly youโve done?โ
With that, he flung his sleeve and turned on his heel toward the HR department.
โMr. Summers!โ Yvette called after him.
