Chapter 701
Yaleโs expression stiffened.
โMr. Hunt, why are you asking me that again? I have nothing to do with this. Iโve been with Ms. Lloyd the whole time. I havenโt even set foot in the company. How could it possibly be me?โ
Tyler leaned back slightly and twirled his pen. โI never said it was you, so why are you in such a rush to defend yourself?โ
Only then did Yale realize he might have reacted too hastily. He quickly recovered.
โApologies, Mr. Hunt. I was too anxious. I just didnโt want you to misunderstand me.โ
Tylerโs gaze locked onto Yale. The depth in them was like an abyss. One wrong step, and heโd be lost forever.
โYale, youโve worked at my side for many years. You know my character, and you know exactly what I hate most.โ
โYes, Mr. Hunt. I understand.โ
Tyler didnโt want to keep beating around the bush. โThis is your last chance. However you answer now, I wonโt bring it up again. But I want you to think carefully.โ
The whole night felt like a rollercoaster ride to Yale, and being forced to choose at this moment was a nightmare.
But if his sacrifice could help Tyler survive this crisis, then maybe it was worth it.
With that thought in mind, he found courage again. He straightened his back and spoke firmly.
โMr. Hunt, no matter how many times you ask, my answer is the same: This has nothing to do with me, and even less with Ms. Lloyd. From the moment we left the apartment, Iโve been by her side. I never once left her sight. And if you suspect the two of us are working together, thatโs impossible. What would we even gain from that? What purpose would it serve?โ
Tyler didnโt reply. He simply listened, then, after a pause, chose not to press further.
โStay here and continue assisting with the investigation. Iโm going home.โ
โMr. Hunt, then what about the project?โ Yale asked carefully.
โIf nothing else is wrong with it, it can move forward.โ
โYes!โ Yale nearly burst out cheering.
Whatever the truth, as long as the outcome was in their favor, that was all that mattered. Since the contract was already stamped, there was no point fussing about forged handwriting.
If Tyler canceled now, the company would face a massive penalty fee, which would be an even greater loss.
Once Tyler left, Yale immediately dialed Rachel.
โMs. Lloyd, the plan worked. Mr. Hunt said if no issues are found after further checks, the project can go ahead.โ
Rachel finally sighed in relief. โIn that case, thatโs wonderful. Our efforts werenโt wasted.โ
โBut thereโs a problem, and itโs a serious one. Mr. Hunt insists on meeting the projectโs representative. That means he still suspects something.โ
Rachel, however, remained calm.
โOf course. Thatโs perfectly normal. It would be strange if he didnโt suspect anything.โ
Yale frowned. โBut how are we supposed to find a representative? You canโt exactly go meet him yourself, can you?โ
Rachel touched her chin thoughtfully and fell silent.
โYouโre right. Thatโs a real problem. No one else is suitable. With the way Tyler is, he can see through people too easily, especially if thereโs something shady going on. And this time, there really is.โ
Yale grew more anxious, feeling like his head was already on the chopping block. This project had to go through.
Rachel thought for a moment, but no clear answer came.
โDonโt panic. Let me think it over. Besides, youโll be accompanying Mr. Hunt on his business trip tomorrow anyway, arenโt you?โ
