Chapter 735

Tyler pushed Anne aside and walked toward Rachel. His brows furrowed tightly.

โ€œWhat were you thinking, coming up here when itโ€™s so dangerous?โ€

Rachel quickly pulled herself together. โ€œThe police said we need to get downstairs right away so they can check things out. It seems the killer might still be hiding somewhere in this building.โ€

She had already gotten some information from the people outside.

โ€œApparently, it was just a couple on vacation. They got into an argument. The guy thought the girl didnโ€™t love him, and she felt he was being unreasonable.โ€

It was a pretty common kind of relationship conflict.

Tyler turned to Anne. โ€œGo pack up your things. Hurry.โ€

โ€œOkay!โ€

Anne, already scared, rushed inside to pack.

Rachel stayed outside with Tyler, her eyes scanning the people coming and going.

The police had said the killer was still in the building. Knowing someone had been attacked without knowing who the attacker was only made things more unsettling.

They had to stay on guard because in a crowd like this, anyone could be the killer.

Meanwhile, the police were checking everyone. Nobody in the hotel was allowed to move around freely; even newcomers from outside had to go through questioning before being cleared.

Tyler frowned at Rachel, his deep voice carrying both displeasure and a hint of concern that was hard to miss.

โ€œDidnโ€™t I tell you not to come up here? What would you do if you ran into the killer? Do you think youโ€™d stand a chance in close combat with him?โ€

Rachel snorted. โ€œOh, I see. Youโ€™re more worried Iโ€™ll ruin your good time with Anne. Iโ€™m sure she could really use the comfort of your warm embrace right now.โ€

She even poked him in the chest with a finger as she spoke.

Rachel herself didnโ€™t think much of the remark. To her, it was just an ordinary joke. After all, her friends and even coworkers often teased each other like this.

But to Tyler, she sounded exactly like a jealous girlfriend.

Instead of getting angry, he actually found it amusing.

He reached out and pinched her nose. โ€œI didnโ€™t even realize what was happening. She suddenly rushed over and hugged me. Before I had the chance to push her away, you showed up.โ€

Rachel turned her head and pouted. She snorted.

โ€œWho knows how long you two were hugging? Not that it has anything to do with me. Thereโ€™s no need to over-explain.โ€

Tyler lowered his gaze. His voice had a hint of satisfaction and teasing.

โ€œAlright, then. I wonโ€™t explain anything to you from now on.โ€

Rachel felt like his words had caught her off guard, leaving her unable to come up with a proper comeback.

The air between them grew a little tense.

Just then, Anne walked out. โ€œTyler, Iโ€™m done packing.โ€

Tyler straightened up and took the suitcase from her hand. โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€

They got into the elevator. Luckily, it wasnโ€™t too crowded. Watching the numbers tick down, Anne finally started to relax, her nerves and fear slowly easing.

But once that tension let up, she couldnโ€™t resist complaining.

โ€œThat couple is absolutely disgusting! They had a fight, and somehow dragged everyone else into it. Itโ€™s not like anyone made them argue. The guy must be crazy. There are plenty of women in the world. Why hurt someone over just one?

โ€œHow stupid! Doesnโ€™t he realize that hurting people only puts him in trouble? Once the police complete their investigation, heโ€™s going to face the consequences. Premeditated assault carries five to fifteen years in prison.โ€
