Chapter 740

โ€œShut up!โ€ Anne shouted.

Seeing Anne break down seemed to put the manโ€™s mind at ease. He laughed with satisfaction.

โ€œSee that? He doesnโ€™t like you! Didnโ€™t I just tell you? Now you see it for yourself.โ€

Anne stayed silent. Her whole body was stiff like a statue.

Just then, a womanโ€™s voice rang out at the elevator entrance.

โ€œAndrew Warhol, what are you doing? Are you out of your mind? Let her go!โ€

Rachel finally realized the manโ€™s name was Andrew Warhol. Without a doubt, the newcomer was the girlfriend he claimed to love to death.

The moment Andrew heard her voice, alarm bells went off in his head. His whole demeanor changed instantly. His pupils dilated, and his voice softened. โ€œClaireโ€ฆโ€

Claire Nelson looked at him, fear mixed with disappointment in her eyes. โ€œLet her go. Do you realize this is a crime? Youโ€™re going to ruin yourself.โ€

Andrew shook his head and frowned like he was on the verge of tears. โ€œI donโ€™t want to break up. Iโ€™m begging you, donโ€™t leave me.โ€

Claire said softly, โ€œFine, I wonโ€™t break up with you. Just let her go, and weโ€™ll talk it out.โ€

Andrew latched onto her words like a drowning man grabbing a life raft. โ€œReally? Youโ€™re not leaving me? We can still be together.โ€

โ€œYes, yes. Now let her go,โ€ Claire urged.

Andrewโ€™s grip on Anne loosened, and finally he let her go. Anne stumbled forward, wanting to run to Tyler. However, her legs had long since gone weak with fear. She could barely move.

Suddenly, Claire turned to the police. โ€œOfficers, Iโ€™ve already convinced him to let the hostage go. That means this has nothing to do with me anymore, right?โ€

One of them reassured her, โ€œDonโ€™t worry, you wonโ€™t be held responsible.โ€

Claire let out a sigh of relief. โ€œGood. Thatโ€™s good.โ€

The moment Andrew heard that, his expression changed. Rage flashed in his eyes, and before anyone could react, he snatched the knife and lunged toward Anne.

Tyler bolted toward Anne at once.

Anne had no idea she was still in danger. She thought Tyler had chosen her, running straight toward her. A smile appeared on her face.

โ€œTyler!โ€

But the knife was already swinging down. At the last second, Tyler pulled Anne into his arms and turned his back to Andrew to shield her.

Rachel, who stood nearby, grabbed a police officerโ€™s gun, chambered a round, and fired at Andrewโ€™s arm.

The deafening gunshot echoed through the hall.

Andrew howled in pain, the knife clattering to the floor as police officers rushed forward and pinned him down.

Even as handcuffs snapped onto his wrists, Andrew turned to Claire and shouted bitterly, โ€œYou liar! You never wanted to get back together with me. It was all a trick, just to buy time and dump all the blame on me! Youโ€™ve been fooling me from the very start!โ€

Now that he was restrained, Claire finally had the courage to speak her mind.

โ€œAndrew, Iโ€™ll admit you treated me well when we first started dating. But now, youโ€™ve changed completely. Your need to control me is so suffocating, I feel like you could strangle me any day. Even if it kills me, I refuse to be with someone like you ever again!โ€

Andrew thrashed against the officers, roaring as they dragged him away.

โ€œI wonโ€™t let you go!โ€

Tyler, still holding Anne, had assumed the police fired the shot. But when he glanced up, he realized the gun was in Rachelโ€™s hands. His eyes narrowed instinctively.

Rachel looked just as stunned as anyone. Her body was stiff, and her mind went blank while she stared back at Tyler.

Anne, still clinging to him, murmured weakly, โ€œTylerโ€ฆโ€

But in the next instant, Tyler pushed her aside and strode toward Rachel. He yanked the cold gun out of her hands.

โ€œHow could you snatch a gun and actually fire it?โ€
