Chapter 770
Rachel couldnโt out-wrestle Tyler and found herself dragged to the hospital.
She lay on the hospital bed helplessly, wondering why she had been visiting the hospital so many times recently. Ever since she came back from overseas, she had been going to the hospital due to many different reasons. Well, her health came first. She had to be in good health to fight for what she thought was important.
As Rachel lay on the bed, she noticed the fatigue in Tylerโs eyes and asked, โWhy donโt you lie down too? Youโve been out and about the entire day.โ
โIโll sit here and keep you company,โ Tyler said as he pulled a chair over and sat down on it.
Rachel thought back on the things Tyler had said at the police station earlier. She had been pondering it for a long time and finally decided to ask the question on her mind. โI wanted to ask why you thought of making use of your relationship with Mr. Lewis today? Anne was rightโit doesnโt really matter even if we failed to put Sawyer behind bars. Weโre in a foreign land, on anotherโs territory. Whatโs more, we donโt know the other partyโs background in full. Bringing more trouble upon ourselves isnโt worth it.โ
Rachel admitted she had been too reckless at the police station and didnโt think things through enough. Now that she thought about it, it would truly have been careless of her if she brought trouble upon themselves because of her impulsiveness.
She was also aware that Tyler hated using his connection with the Lewis family. Things between them were tense, and using Mr. Lewisโ name was akin to Tyler succumbing to him. That didnโt fall in line with Tylerโs usual approach to things. Tyler was a hard, stubborn man. Even at his lowest, he refused to bow down to Mr. Lewis, and that remained the same even now that his company was on the verge of bankruptcy. Would a man like that be willing to utilize his connections with the family?
The only explanation was that he had done so for her sake. He did it to stand up for Rachel, so that she didnโt need to hold herself back before Anne and suffer. Tyler chose to compromise for her sake. Rachel could feel tears welling up in her eyes. โIโm sorry. If it werenโt for me, you wouldnโt have needed to bow down to Mr. Lewis.โ
Tyler didnโt blame Rachel. Instead, he rubbed her head with a tender and doting gaze. โMy pride and dignity were most important to me in the past. I could bow down to anyone in this world except for my old man, but even thatโs nothing compared to standing up for you.โ
Rachel took a deep breath. For a long time, she could feel that gap in her heart gradually being filled by the man before her. Something that even William failed to do was now done by Tyler. She reached out and whispered to Tyler, โCome give me a hug.โ Her voice was always cold and distant; this was the first time she spoke in such a soft, tender tone, like a cat purring to its owner.
Tyler reached out to pull her into his embrace, wrapping her so tightly and leaving no gaps in between them. Her body was soft and pliant; it instinctively made Tyler want to exert more force, wishing their bodies could melt and be one. No one knew how long he had been yearning for this seemingly whirlwind romance. Rachel could feel his warmth through his shirt. His scent, mixed with tobacco, was surprisingly pleasant.
Tyler cupped her fair cheeks in his palms, warming them up with his heat. โTell me that more while weโre in bed, okay?โ
