Chapter 814
"Why else would he be here at my fatherโs funeral?"
Rachel took a step closer to Samantha, her eyes sharp and piercing.
"You say that heโs never been invited to family events and gatherings, but have you ever seen Mr. Lewis call him? How dare you even insinuate that? What if itโs because he doesnโt want to go?"
Samantha was rendered speechless by Rachelโs words, her face stiffening with indignation.
Just then, William walked out of the room upon realizing that Samantha didnโt follow him. He saw the scene between the two ladies.
He hastened his pace and grabbed Samanthaโs wrist.
"What are you doing?"
When William came by, Samantha looked as though her savior had appeared. The moment her gaze landed on William, the tears welling in her eyes fell like beads from a broken necklace.
"Oh, William! I think Rachel still harbors some resentment and misunderstanding toward me, even after so many years. I came to her fatherโs funeral out of purely good intentions. I just asked about Tyler out of concern, and she started lecturing me."
Rachel had long gotten used to Samanthaโs modus operandi, so she wasnโt the least bit surprised. In fact, she was rather speechless.
She crossed her arms and looked disdainfully at Samantha.
"Youโve played that same trick over and over again for so many years. Is William still in the dark about it, like a fool?"
Samantha choked back tears. "Rachel, youโve really misunderstood me! I know it was my fault that you divorced William back then, and that I really shouldnโt have come in between the two of you, but I was always the one William liked.
"You knew that he never forgot me over the years. No matter how much you hit or scold me, I can accept it. But can you please not act this way? I hope you can start life anew instead of being trapped in the past and losing yourself."
Rachel arched a brow, her interest piqued by Samanthaโs words. "You said that I can hit you to appease my anger?"
Samantha didnโt expect Rachel to really do anything to her. Whatโs more, there were so many people around. Rachel wouldnโt dare lay a finger on her unless she was crazy.
She wiped her tears away and looked indignantly at Rachel. "If that helps you vent your anger, I can accept whatever you do to me."
"Sure, if thatโs what you say."
With that, Rachel slapped Samantha hard on her cheek.
It took Samantha a moment to realize what was going on.
The sudden move stunned her, and even William was shocked. Relatives and friends around them also noticed the commotion.
"Whatโs going on? Why are they fighting?"
"How would I know? Wait, isnโt that Samantha Judd?"
"Is she the third party who came in between William and Rachelโs marriage? Apparently, his very first love."
"Yes, itโs her."
"I know sheโs a piece of work at just one glance. How could William divorce Rachel if not for her? Sheโs wicked through and through."
"She had it coming!"
Samantha was shocked by the turn of events. No one helped her when she got slapped; instead, they started speaking up for Rachel.
She cupped her cheek with a hand and looked at William, embarrassment and indignation in her eyes.
"William, look at what Rachel did to me! How could she slap me?" she cried.
