Tyler frowned. “It’s too far. I don’t feel comfortable with it.”

“I’m not a child. Don’t worry. Just treat it like a business trip,” Rachel murmured before pressing her nose to his Adam’s apple.

Tyler visibly stiffened. They had been together so long, but she hardly ever acted coquettish. It hit him in a way he wasn’t used to, almost making his heart skip a beat.

When he still didn’t agree, Rachel wondered if she was just bad at this. Maybe he wasn’t susceptible to it. She had learned this kind of thing from a web drama recently. Most of them played out like this. Maybe she was just too conservative. She gathered her courage again and gently nibbled at his earlobe.

“I’ll report to you at all times and keep you updated on my whereabouts. You know how close I am to Cecilia. I can’t just stand idly by while she’s feeling helpless.”

Her warm breath brushed against his neck. Tyler’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He took hold of her mischievous hand and spoke in a deep voice. “Don’t be silly. It’s not that I don’t want you to go. I’m just worried your body can’t take it.”

At first, Rachel didn’t quite catch what he meant. Her gaze landed somewhere, and she suddenly understood. She instinctively tried to pull away, but Tyler wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his arms.

“I’m teasing you. I’m not going to disregard your health. Don’t worry. Once you rest up these few days, I’ll put in the extra effort,” he said.

“Then, can I go? I don’t trust anyone else to go. Cecilia doesn’t have much time, and she still has two kids. Think about it. If something happens to her, what will happen to her children?”

Rachel knew how urgent Cecilia’s condition was. If Jim’s affairs hadn’t delayed her, she would’ve left days ago.

Tyler also knew how close Rachel was to Cecilia, and he hadn’t tried to forbid her. He understood her temperament. Telling her not to go would only make her more determined. In the end, he couldn’t stop her. It was better to let her go and send extra protection so he’d be informed immediately if anything happened.

There was a tenderness in his eyes. He reached out and pinched her nose. “You can go, but you must promise me one thing.”

Rachel hurried to answer. “Name it. If I can do it, I will.”

“Bring Jerry and Yale with you.”

Rachel wasn’t surprised about Yale, but bringing Jerry puzzled her. She cocked her head and looked at him with a curious gaze. “Hey, why are you suddenly so trusting of Jerry? Didn’t you use to worry about him being around me?”

Tyler answered calmly, “I know Jerry has feelings for you. If danger comes, he’d be willing to sacrifice himself to protect you.”

A complex look passed over Rachel’s face. She poked his head playfully. “You’re such a schemer. Even Jerry is part of your plan.”

Tyler didn’t try to hide it. He looked at her seriously. “Because I know that no matter what happens, I could sacrifice anyone to protect you, including myself.”

Rachel froze. She was stunned by Tyler’s words. She had never realized or allowed herself to believe that he cared for her so deeply. He would go as far as sacrificing himself for her.
