Chapter 854

She returned to the hotel and bumped into Yale and Jerry, who were on their way out.

Rachel greeted them. “Where are you guys going so early in the morning?”

Jerry and Yale hurried over to Rachel.

“Ms. Lloyd, where did you go?”

“Where in the world were you, Rachel? You frightened me! I thought something happened to you. You didn’t even answer your phone. Where were you?”

Jerry surveyed Rachel from head to toe and looked relieved upon confirming that she was fine.

Since she had settled things, Rachel thought there was no point in hiding the truth from them.

“I went to the headquarters and talked things through with Hannah.”

Jerry was shocked to hear that. “Did she make things difficult for you?”

Jerry worked in the same company as Rachel, and he knew Hannah pretty well. She and Rachel were completely incompatible in personality and working styles. Hannah hated Rachel and thought she was too capable for her own good, and often tried to frame her and blame her for things. Now that Hannah had leverage over Rachel, she would certainly not spare her.

Rachel forced a smile on her face. “What do you think?”

“Will she sue?”

This was the question at the forefront of Jerry’s mind.

Yale jumped in to say, “It’s fine even if she sues you. We’ll tell Mr. Hunt about it, and I’m sure he’ll have a way.”

Rachel shook her head. “She wouldn’t dare because I have something against her.”

“So? Was that the end of it?” Jerry asked eagerly. He knew better than anyone else how swiftly and resolutely Hannah acted, and how ruthless and merciless she could be. She would never leave a way out for her enemies if she could help it. Hannah always used to magnify all of Rachel’s faults, no matter what she did. How could she let such a rare chance to destroy Rachel go?

Instead of answering Jerry’s question, Rachel changed the subject.

“Enough about this. Let’s pack up and make a trip to Elias’ house. Cecilia is running out of time.”

Jerry and Yale understood what Rachel meant by that.

They nodded profusely.

Rachel returned to her room to pack her things and headed for Elias’ house with Yale and Jerry.

Along the way, Jerry deliberately made an excuse of needing some water, to which Yale said nothing further and made his way to the nearest supermarket.

When Yale was gone, Jerry seized the chance to speak frankly with Rachel.

“Rachel, be honest. I know Hannah would never let you go so easily. What did she make you do?”

Rachel didn’t find it appropriate to tell Jerry everything with Yale around. She was worried that Yale might tell Tyler about it. She secretly transferred her company’s projects to Tyler’s company back then, but Tyler’s company is still not out of the woods yet. She couldn’t add to his trouble at such a critical juncture.

Rachel told Jerry what happened earlier, and he exclaimed, “What? One hundred million dollars? Hannah must be out of her mind to ask for so much money. And she wants it in one week?!”
