Chapter 874
โHe shouldnโt continue to torment and deceive himself and others around him.โ
William slammed the bottle hard on the table, causing some liquor to splash out and land on the back of his hand. He looked at his own reflection in the glass and suddenly chuckled self-derisively.
โSnatch? How can I even do that? Tyler is the only man she has eyes for right now, and even Grandpa has approved of their relationship. Who do I think I am?โ
William had thought things through. If Rachel eventually decided to marry Tyler, he would never go back. Why would he? He didnโt want to see them all lovey-dovey! All the more he didnโt want to have to call Rachel his aunt.
He had finally realized that when he forced Rachel to divorce him so he could be with Samantha, he was in fact throwing aside something that was most precious to him. William felt suffocated at the mere thought.
He turned to ask Samuel, โWas I a huge bastard back then?โ
Samuel patted his shoulder comfortingly. โYou were, but itโs not too late to realize it now. At least, youโll think twice before doing something so bastardly.โ
William remained silent and went on drinking himself silly. The neon lights shone through the windows, casting a colorful sheen on his face that flickered on and off. He knew that his friends were right, but regret grew like wild grass in his heart. He just couldnโt stop it.
Rachel and Tyler were on their way back after visiting Thomas when Tylerโs phone rang. It was a text from Jason.
[William is dead drunk in a bar, chanting your girlfriendโs name non-stop. Do you want to step in?]
Tylerโs eyes dimmed. [No.]
He knew William would never stand a chance to be with Rachel again. That man deserved to be in the pain he was in right now.
Rachel got into the car, followed by Tyler, who suddenly winced in pain. She anxiously turned to look at him and saw his brows furrowed.
โDid you bump your wound?โ
โYeah, I accidentally hit it, but itโs fine.โ
Despite his reassurance, he instinctively covered his knees with his hands. Rachel could tell that he had hidden his wound so as not to let his father worry. Rachel was still worried about Tylerโs state. She had seen with her own eyes how that bastard Howard hit Tyler with that heavy baseball bat. Howard never intended to spare Tyler.
She reached out to grab Tylerโs wrist. โWhy donโt you come with me to the hospital? Iโm worried about you.โ
Tyler grabbed Rachelโs hand back, his warm fingers rubbing against her fair skin. โI can go to the hospital with you, but on one condition.โ
โWhat is it?โ Rachel was confused. Why was he demanding something of her when she was doing that for his own good? She wasnโt doing it for herself. Yet here he was, acting all proud and haughty. Forget it. She wouldnโt count it against him, since he was a patient.
โTell me, what do you want?โ
Tyler was never one to hide what was on his mind.
โWhen my old man brought up things between us, why did you hesitate? Are you thinking of going back on your word and finding another man?โ
