Chapter 880

William couldnโ€™t understand why Rachel was so stubborn. She clearly knew the severity of the situation. She was at risk of being sued if she failed to raise the sum.

Two hundred million dollars was a huge figure.

It wasnโ€™t easy getting business partners to invest in oneโ€™s project. It was impossible to raise two hundred million relying on such a slow and arduous method.

After Rachel got into the taxi, she turned around to make sure that William didnโ€™t come running after her. She heaved a sigh of relief.

She headed to the next destination, thankful that she had many proposals prepared and had looked through multiple projects. She just didnโ€™t have the time to bring these proposals to potential partners and find investors for them.

They had now come in handy.

The next business partner, however, wasnโ€™t as easy to deal with as Michael.

Rachel did a rough calculation and figured that she would raise one hundred million dollars if she clinched this deal.

That sum was critical to her right now.

However, she had heard that this business partner enjoyed drinking. If it werenโ€™t for Mark, he would probably drag Rachel to a mega drinking session.

Even though he didnโ€™t, he was fully intending to make Rachel drink at least a little.

Rachel tried turning him down many times and politely rejected the glass of wine he pushed her way.

โ€œMr. Wagner, I really canโ€™t drink. I trust Mark told you about it, didnโ€™t he?โ€

โ€œMs. Lloyd, Iโ€™m not asking you to drink an entire bottle. Are you unwilling to drink even just one glass?โ€ Mr. Wagner said, his tongue slightly tied, looking at her suggestively.

โ€œJust drink this one glass, and we can nail down this contract worth one hundred million dollars. Are you refusing to drink because you think Iโ€™m not worthy of being your business partner?โ€

Rachel gripped the stem of the glass so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

โ€œMr. Wagner, Iโ€™m really sorry. My gastric issues are bothering me, and my doctor warned me not to take any alcohol. Weโ€™ve more or less gone through all the details of the proposal, and Iโ€™ve amended the clauses in the contract you asked me to. Shall we go ahead and sign it?โ€

โ€œSign what?โ€ Mr. Wagner slammed the glass down on the table, causing some liquid to splash out. โ€œI value the friendship built over social drinking, but you refuse to drink even one glass. How can I be convinced that youโ€™re sincere about this collaboration?โ€

He stood up and drew closer to Rachel.

โ€œWell, itโ€™s fine if you donโ€™t drink. I can help you out. Here, let me feed youโ€ฆโ€

A strong smell of alcohol overwhelmed Rachel as she stood up and took a step back. The legs of her chair screeched across the floorboard.

โ€œMr. Wagner, please show some respect.โ€

โ€œRespect?โ€ Mr. Wagner was angered by Rachelโ€™s rejection, the smile on his face twisting as he leered at her. โ€œSo what if youโ€™re someone Mark introduced? You have to play by my rules if you want my money!โ€

Rachel grabbed a glass bottle and smashed it on Mr. Wagnerโ€™s head right before he tried to pounce on her.

โ€œHow dare you attack me!โ€ Mr. Wagner screamed in pain, his eyes vicious. โ€œYou want to do this the hard way, donโ€™t you? Iโ€™ll let you know the consequences of rejecting me!โ€

He grabbed Rachel by her wrist so hard, he almost broke it. He started tearing off her clothes with his other hand.

โ€œStay with me for one night and Iโ€™ll give you three hundred million dollars right away.โ€

Rachel couldnโ€™t care less about the money right now. All she wanted to do was flee the place.

โ€œLet me go!โ€

Her meagre strength wasnโ€™t enough to resist a drunk man. Tears of desperation welled up in her eyes.
