"From the looks of it, you two are of completely different styles. I thought youโd bear some resemblance to Williamโs first love, but it seems like youโre not even a replacement!โ Yvette went on haughtily.
Rachel kept silent. She didnโt know if Yvette meant it as mockery or praise. Was she not even a replacement? Who on earth would want to be a replacement? Or did Yvette mean that she wasnโt even worthy to be a replacement?
Rachel retracted her gaze and glanced at her watch. โLet me remind you that Tyler will only be here for half an hour. He has another appointment to go to after this. Youโd better seize this chance.โ
Yvetteโs eyes widened. โWhy didnโt you say so earlier?โ
Rachel picked up a glass of champagne from a waiterโs tray and took two sips. โWould you be able to make him fall for you in an instant if I told you that?โ
Yvette cast Rachel a disdainful look. โYouโre jealous of me, arenโt you? If I hadnโt come back, youโd still be the legitimate daughter of the Lloyd family. A pity youโre just a nobody now!โ
Rachel smirked, not letting Yvetteโs words affect her. She simply said indifferently, โDonโt forget that Iโm legally the mistress of the Lewis family.โ
Yvette gritted her teeth, anger burning in her eyes. โIf it werenโt for you, Iโd be the mistress of the Lewis family! Youโre shameless through and through, Rachel! Youโre still acting all high and mighty after stealing the life that should have been mine!โ
The most frustrating thing was that no matter what Yvette said, it failed to ruffle Rachelโs feathers. Did she not care one bit? Impossible! Rachelโs life was turned upside down by her appearance. How could Rachel not bear a grudge against her?
Rachel couldnโt be bothered to respond to Yvette. She spotted Tyler, who was the center of attention no matter where he went. Everyoneโs eyes seemed to be on him. He was surrounded by elite businessmen and corporate leaders, all of them eagerly raising a toast to him.
Tylerโs long fingers were wrapped around the stem of his glass, a look of faint interest in his eyes. It made Rachel feel like he was, in fact, distracted. He suddenly turned his head, and their gazes met. Rachel shuddered as she blanked out at that moment.
His deep, dark eyes twinkled teasingly as he raised his glass at her, the corners of his lips curling in a wicked smile. Rachel anxiously turned her back to him, her fair cheeks blushing ever so slightly.
Yvette sensed the change in Rachelโs face. โWhatโs wrong with you?โ
Rachel looked away and said with a calm that she did not feel, โNothing. Mr. Hunt is right ahead. Seize the chance and donโt let it go to waste!"
"Help me out here, Rachel. Since you know Mr. Hunt better, can you help me give this glass of champagne to him? He certainly wonโt take it from me, so treat it as a go-between.โ
Yvette grabbed a glass from a waiterโs hand and passed it to Rachel.
Rachel didnโt think much of it. Yvette had taken the glass of champagne from a waiterโs hand. If Yvette had handed her a glass from somewhere else, she certainly wouldnโt agree to help. Who knew what she might add to the champagne? All Rachel wanted to do right now was to settle Yvetteโs affair and leave as soon as she could.
She took the glass from Yvetteโs fingers. โCome on.โ
Yvette smiled smugly. With a man like Tyler, she couldnโt rely on the usual, boring methods. One look was enough for her to know that this man was a tough nut to crack. Ordinary women werenโt his cup of tea. Why bother wasting her time on ordinary means, then?
