Chapter 107: A Brain Full of Holes
Leonard turned his gaze away, refusing to look at her. "If you're still holding onto that anger, there's nothing to discuss."
Lia recalled the details from last night, her anger flaring. It was Amber's fault for provoking her so fast. She hadn't done anything wrong by helping her friend. Yes, Leonard defended Amber. If she backed down now, it would mean admitting that Amber's behavior was acceptable.
Thinking about the two months of hard work and the losses she had incurred made her heart ache, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't worth sacrificing her principles.
Taking a deep breath, she clenched her teeth. "Fine. If you don't want to talk, we won't. My studio won't collapse without your order. Just you wait, Leonard. I'll get my revenge."
With that, she slammed the door behind her. The moment she stepped outside the company, tears streamed down her face. All that money was gone after working day and night for two months!
As she cried, her hunger intensified, and she felt too weak to keep walking. She sat down on the steps, hugging her knees and imagining ways to take revenge on Leonard.
Hearing footsteps approach from behind, she didn't bother to move. If someone stared at her, so be it. She wouldn't care about her pride.
"W-What are you crying for? I didn't do anything to you"
Hearing Leonard's voice, Lia looked up. Her expression was a mix of anger and disbelief. "You wanted to mess with me from the start, didn't you? You gave me an impossible order. I've been working like crazy for two months, nearly breaking my back, and now I've lost money on materials. You canceled the contract without a care because I insulted you? Well, you deserved it! I didn't just insult you last night; I'm still insulting you now. You're not a good person!"
He frowned, feeling the stares of passersby. He couldn't take it anymore. He pulled out a tissue and crouched down to wipe her tears. "Stop crying. Can we talk calmly for once?"
She shot him a disdainful glance. "Ha! Have some shame! Do you think your pride matters? Why did you even come out here? Are you out of your mind?"
He paused, then admitted, "Yes, I'm out of it. I thought your studio was a mass production line."
Her anger peaked. "Do you think a production line could charge those prices? Are you brain-dead? I've never hated anyone as much as I hate you right now, you"
Leonard rubbed his temples in frustration. Lia, seizing the moment, grabbed his arm and wiped her tears on the expensive sleeve of his suit, relishing the act of defiance.
With a gloomy look, he extended his arm toward her. "Go ahead. Wipe your tears. I'm not going to cancel the order, alright? I just couldn't understand why you invited me last night."
Lia used his sleeve as tissue without reservation while launching into her tirade, "Why did you defend that two-faced bitch, Amber, last night? Were you trying to play the hero? In that case, you deserved to be insulted!"
His mouth twitched. "Dominic said the same thing But the thing is, Amber is Dominic's ex-girlfriend. I shouldn't have to defend her, right? I was just trying to protect you! If I hadn't stepped in, you could have gotten hurt. Was I supposed to turn my back on you? How would I even talk to you if I was facing away? Who knew you could be so free? If I had known you could take her on, I wouldn't have intervened."
She was baffled. "Why would you be worried about me getting hurt? Are we that close? Can't you come up with a better excuse? Stop explaining yourself! Explanations are just excuses, and excuses are a sign of guilt!"
Leonard's expression darkened. He took a deep breath, stood up, and said coldly, "Think whatever you want. You can continue with the order if you want, and I'll double the penalty fee even if you don't. That way, you won't be at a loss and could still make some profit. Hurry back. I'm leaving."
