Chapter 125: Want to Move Into My Room?
As soon as Sylvia heard the door open, she greeted Bella. "You're back! Did you have fun?"
Bella stared at the scattered shoes and asked, "Is Dominic home?"
Sylvia realized she hadn't put them away. She quickly bent down to tidy them. "Yes, he got back around 6:00 p.m. He seemed exhausted and skipped dinner. He's been asleep since then. Have you eaten? Do you want me to make you something?"
Bella shook her head. "No thanks. I'm too tired. I just want to sleep."
Bella paused as she passed Dominic's room. He wasn't supposed to be back for another ten days. Why was he home so early? How did this happen? The questions swirled in her mind, but she pushed them aside. After showering, she collapsed into bed and slept soundly. She didn't wake until morning, undisturbed even by dreams.
When she woke, she went to the bathroom to freshen up. On her way back to her room, she slowed down as she passed Dominic's door and glanced at it. Usually, the door remained tightly shut, a clear barrier between them. This time, however, it was open.
Dominic stared at Bella with hazy eyes. He wore light-colored pajamas, his hair slightly messy. His usual sharp expression softened into something casual, his eyes holding a glimmer of amusement. "Your room doesn't have a private bathroom. That must be inconvenient, huh?"
Bella was taken aback and withdrew her gaze awkwardly. "It's it's fine. I've gotten used to it."
Dominic shoved his hands into his pajama pockets and lowered his voice. "How about you move into my room?"
Bella's heart skipped a beat. "N-No thanks! I think my room is perfectly fine. I have work to do. I should get ready!"
She fled back to her room, shutting the door behind her. Only then did she sigh in relief. What just happened? She knew the Dominic she knew would never have let her set foot in his room, let alone invite her to move in. However, she couldn't ignore it forever. They still had breakfast together.
At the table, Bella kept her head down. She couldn't taste her eggs and sandwich. She just wanted to finish and leave. Being around him felt unsettling. He wasn't the same. Something about him seemed off, as if he were toying with her.
She thought he must be messing with her. Maybe he knew how she felt and was enjoying watching her squirm. If that was his game, she wasn't going to fall for it.
"What are you thinking about?" Dominic asked suddenly.
Bella stammered, "N-Nothing. Didn't you say you weren't coming back for another ten days? Why are you home so soon?"
He took a slow sip of coffee. "Take a guess."
Bella wanted to retort but remained silent. She finished her sandwich, grabbed her bag, and stood to leave.
She didn't notice her bag strap caught on the chair. With a tug, the strap snapped.
For a moment, everything froze. Bella smiled awkwardly. "Guess I've had this bag long enough. It's time for a new one… Bye!"
Dominic's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched her leave, amusement glinting in them.
Later that evening, before heading home, Bella called Sylvia to make sure Dominic wasn't around. Only after confirmation did she return.
When she entered her room, she saw a brand-new designer handbag on her bed. It was the latest model, a woman's dream. She'd admired it before but never considered buying it because of the price. Now, it sat on her bed.
